Linux Kernel Developer (Remote | Part-time | Hourly Basis)

Employment Type: Part-time / Contract (Hourly)

Location: Remote (Work from Anywhere)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Linux Kernel Developer with 4–5 years of experience and proven expertise in submitting patches to the official Linux kernel repository (upstream contributions). This role offers the flexibility to work remotely and part-time, with compensation on an hourly basis.

You will work closely with our engineering team to develop, debug, and optimize kernel-level features, device drivers, and Linux internals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain Linux kernel modules and device drivers.
  • Debug kernel crashes, performance bottlenecks, and low-level issues.
  • Submit, review, and maintain patches in the Linux upstream repository.
  • Collaborate with open-source community and follow kernel patch submission workflows.
  • Provide guidance on best practices for kernel-level development.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 4–5 years of hands-on Linux kernel development experience.
  • Strong expertise in C programming for kernel space.
  • Proven track record of submitting accepted patches to the Linux kernel live repository (upstream).
  • Solid knowledge of Linux internals: memory management, scheduling, interrupts, synchronization.
  • Hands-on experience with debugging tools: KGDB, perf, ftrace, crash, etc.
  • Familiarity with git, patch management, and kernel build systems.

Good to Have:

  • Contributions to open-source projects beyond the Linux kernel.
  • Knowledge of ARM / x86 internals, virtualization (KVM/QEMU), or real-time Linux.
  • Experience in embedded Linux environments.
