Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer with strong expertise in SolidWorks 3D CAD to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) engineering team. The candidate will be responsible for the mechanical design and development of battery packs, enclosures, thermal management systems, and related components used in stationary and containerized energy storage solutions.

This role blends mechanical innovation with practical design engineering to ensure reliable, safe, and cost-effective ESS battery system designs that comply with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical design of ESS battery modules, racks, and enclosures from concept to production stages.

Develop 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, BOMs, and design documentation for manufacturing and assembly.

Design custom enclosures, cooling/thermal management systems, mounting structures, and cable routing to meet performance and safety requirements.

Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, material selection, and mechanical stress verification for components.

Collaborate closely with electrical, thermal, and systems engineers to ensure mechanical integration of battery packs, busbars, switchgear, and auxiliary equipment.

Ensure designs comply with UL, IEC, and relevant safety certifications for stationary battery energy storage systems.

Support prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and manufacturing scaling activities.

Utilize SolidWorks Simulation (FEA/CFD) or equivalent tools for mechanical strength and thermal flow analysis.

Work with suppliers, fabrication partners, and contract manufacturers to optimize design for manufacturability (DFM) and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design for battery systems, energy storage systems, or related power electronics enclosures. Container level BESS is an advantage.
  • Expert proficiency in SolidWorks CAD (3D modeling, assemblies, 2D drawings, PDM).
  • Experience with sheet metal, aluminum extrusion, plastics, and precision machining relevant to battery housing/enclosure design.
  • Knowledge of thermal management design for high-power systems (airflow, liquid cooling preferred).
  • Familiarity with standards for ESS and Li-ion battery safety certification (UL 9540A, IEC 62619, UN38.3, IEC
  • Strong understanding of IP ratings, EMI shielding, vibration/shock standards, and industrial safety compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with prototype validation and testing.
  • Excellent communication, cross-functional collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills (Plus)

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks Simulation, CFD, ANSYS, or similar for thermal and structural simulations.
  • Experience in containerized BESS mechanical design (20ft / 40ft systems).
  • Exposure to high-voltage battery systems and power electronics packaging.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes like welding, powder coating, die casting, and injection molding.
