Position Overview

The School of Holistic Development (SHD) at MIT ADT University is dedicated to fostering a 'Wholesome Personality' by integrating arts into the curriculum, recognizing the crucial role of creative expression in cognitive, emotional, and social growth. We are seeking an imaginative and skilled Faculty member for Creative Arts to design, teach, and assess courses across various artistic disciplines. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing students' creative thinking, aesthetic appreciation, and expressive capabilities, aligning with the SHD's integral education philosophy.

This role requires a broad artistic background, expertise in pedagogical methods that promote creativity, and a commitment to the holistic development of students through art.

Key Responsibilities

1. Teaching and Interdisciplinary Curriculum

• Instruction: Design and deliver engaging courses in various creative arts disciplines, which may include visual arts (drawing, painting, sculpture), performing arts (theatre, music, dance appreciation), digital art, and design thinking.
• Creative Pedagogy: Employ innovative and experiential teaching methodologies that encourage experimentation, critical thinking, and self-expression.
• Integration: Develop and teach modules that integrate creative arts with other disciplines (e.g., science, technology, leadership) to promote a holistic and interdisciplinary learning environment.
• Curriculum Development: Continuously develop, review, and update course content, projects, and syllabi that reflect current trends in arts and education while meeting the SHD's objective of overall personality development.

2. Studio/Workshop Management and Assessment

• Workshop Facilitation: Plan and conduct practical workshops, studio sessions, and hands-on projects, ensuring a safe and inspiring environment for artistic creation.
• Resource Management: Oversee the procurement, maintenance, and effective use of art supplies, equipment, and studio spaces.
• Evaluation: Assess student work based on technical skill, originality, conceptual clarity, and effort, providing constructive and detailed critiques.
• Portfolio Guidance: Mentor students on developing professional-quality portfolios that showcase their creative journey and development.

3. Cultural and University Engagement

• Events and Exhibitions: Organize and lead student art exhibitions, performances, and cultural events to showcase student talent and enrich the university's cultural landscape.
• Outreach: Collaborate with external artists, arts organizations, and community partners to bring in guest lectures and organize field trips.
• Administrative Duties: Participate in departmental and university-wide committees, academic planning, and faculty meetings.
• Advocacy: Champion the importance of creative and aesthetic education within the university's holistic development framework.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Education: Master's degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Design, or a related field. A Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience is a plus.
• Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of experience teaching or practicing creative arts at a college, university, or equivalent professional level.
• Artistic Proficiency: Documented proficiency and a strong portfolio in at least two major creative arts disciplines (e.g., painting and digital media, or theatre and design).
• Pedagogical Skills: Proven ability to teach non-art majors and foster creativity across diverse student backgrounds.

• Skills:

• Familiarity with contemporary art movements and digital art tools/software.

• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in organizing art-related public events.

Desirable Attributes

• Experience with integrated curriculum design or interdisciplinary teaching models.
• A background in Arts Therapy or the psychological benefits of creative engagement.
• Knowledge of the Indian cultural and artistic heritage.
• Familiarity with the use of technology for portfolio creation and art dissemination.
