About the role
The Systems Engineer II for Database operations is a technical role and person is expected to work on incident, problem, and change request to support the database platforms across public and private cloud. Systems Engineering is a core capability for Tesco Technology, and this position is critical for shaping the engineering culture as we grow. The role will be serving as a core member of an agile team that support the Database Platform Availability and future automations in Tesco. This role is also providing operational assistance and guidance for SQL Server platform including monitoring, management, disaster recovery, security compliance/auditing, performance, Backup/Recovery.
You will be responsible for
- Support and Administer database instances effectively, efficiently, and independently.
Discover and implement new technologies that improve functionality, availability, cost efficiency, and security for Tesco's Database Platforms.
Collaborate with other teams across all of Tesco Technology and vendors to ensure service and project delivery.
Resolve moderate to complex (P1, P2 and P3) incidents and problems effectively in a timely manner.
- Providing 24X7 production support and available for escalations
- Responsible for performing root cause analysis and long-term fix.
- Responsible for implementation of medium to complex components of a project module, change request.
- Responsible for providing trend analysis to management team to enable them to make informed decisions.
- Working in a cross-cultural team and communicate effectively.
- Automation experience in the database support structure
- Good team player and willingness to explore and learn new areas/technologies.
- Basic knowledge of Windows OS and its related commands
- Good analytical skills
- Flexible to work in shifts.
You will need
Minimum 8 yrs experience in SQL Server database administration
Owning the accountability of database support and administration effectively, efficiently and independently
Plan/perform tasks related to installation and configuration, performance tuning, backup, recovery, security, patching, upgrades and high availability
Resolve moderate to complex (P1 and P2) incidents and problems effectively in a timely manner
Providing 24X7 production support as needed and available for escalations
Accountable for performing root cause analysis, long term fix, service improvements and providing technical solutions
Accountable for design and implementation of medium to complex components of a project module, change requests.
Responsible for providing trend analysis to management team to enable them to make informed decisions
Working in a cross cultural team and communicate effectively with team and stake holders
Mentoring and guiding junior team members
Expertise in managing multiple MS SQL2008/R2/2012/2014/2016/2017/2019 RDBMS on medium to large systems
Good knowledge of Windows OS and its related commands
Good knowledge of T-SQL and query tuning
High availability features – Mirroring, replication and clustering
Good analytical skills
Automation experience in the database support structure
Ability to work with Cloud (IaaS & PaaS), Cloud technologies
Good team player and willingness to explore and learn new areas/technologies
Work as a subject matter expert
Train and technically scale up team members
