Backup & Storage Engineer

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer with expertise in Backup and Storage to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing and managing data backup and storage solutions to ensure the security, availability, and recoverability of business-critical data. The role will also involve collaborating with other IT teams to ensure the smooth functioning of backup and storage systems, as well as identifying and implementing improvements to these systems.

Design, implement, and maintain backup and storage systems: The Senior Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing backup and storage systems that meet the organization's needs. This includes selecting appropriate hardware and software, configuring systems, and ensuring the systems meet performance and reliability requirements. Firmware upgrade (Hardware and software), Tape Drive / Library Configuration, and Defining Backup/Retention Policy, Mtree Creation / Deletion, CIFS Share Creation

Develop disaster recovery plans: The Senior Engineer will develop disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in the event of a system failure or outage. This includes creating backup schedules, performing backup and recovery tests, and documenting recovery procedures.

Day to Day Operations: The Senior Engineer will monitor backup and storage systems to identify and resolve issues. This includes
- Configuring backup and restoration for clients (VM, DB and FS)
- Performance troubleshooting and tuning
- Backup Failure and troubleshooting
- Analyzing system logs
- Performing system updates and patches
- Mount Scratch tapes(PTL) in DC, DR and Territory for Tape Backup and VTL Tape Reclamation and Mounting VTL Scratch Tapes
- Monitor Backup Schedules (Client and Admin Jobs)
- Monitor the Data Domain Replication

and collaborating with other IT teams to address issues that may impact system performance.

Provide technical guidance: The Senior Engineer will provide technical guidance to junior engineers and other IT staff. This includes providing training and mentorship, sharing best practices, and advising on technology trends and advancements. Assist other IT Teams  in multiple POCs and define, evaluate success criteria

Ensure security and compliance: The Senior Engineer will ensure backup and storage systems are secure and compliant with industry regulations and company policies. This includes implementing appropriate security controls, conducting security audits, and keeping up to date with industry security standards. Knowledge on data vaulting with air gap to protect from any cyber incidents and ransomware protection is an added advantage.

Manage relationships with vendors: The Senior Engineer will manage relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure backup and storage systems meet performance and reliability requirements. This includes evaluating vendor products and services, negotiating contracts, and managing vendor relationships.

Continuous improvement: The Senior Engineer will continuously improve backup and storage systems to meet changing business needs and technology advancements. This includes staying up-to-date with new technologies, evaluating system performance, and identifying opportunities for optimization and automation.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, several years of experience in backup and storage engineering, and excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with backup and storage solutions in a virtualized environment, such as VMware or Hyper-V.

• Experience in IBM Spectrum Protect, IBM Storages, EMC Data Domain, IBM Tivoli and Commvault is a must. Certification in relevant technologies is also desirable.

• Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python.

• Knowledge of data encryption and security best practices.

• Experience with backup and storage solutions in large enterprise environments.

• Industry certifications on backup and storage solutions
