A rare and exciting opportunity has opened up with one of India's most respected and fast-growing private-sector mining companies. With significant investment and long-term strategic vision in the underground coal space, this organisation is looking for a seasoned underground mining professional to take on a Head of Projects role, based residentially in Ahmedabad, India.

This is a leadership-heavy, technically-driven role focused on delivering multiple underground coal mining projects through feasibility to execution - not operations. You will be playing a pivotal part in shaping the future of the company's captive coal supply, supporting sustainable energy and industrial operations across the region.

Please Note: This role is open exclusively to Australian expats who are willing to relocate to Ahmedabad, India on a residential basis.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Leading the development of eight underground mining projects (currently at pre-feasibility stage), with first coal production expected in .

  • Playing a central role in feasibility analysis, technology selection (Longwall & Continuous Miner), mine planning, and contractor/OEM evaluation.

  • Leading a technical team of 40-50 mining engineers and consultants, with a focus on coaching, skill development, and succession planning.

  • Overseeing strategic project milestones and ensuring the successful handover of mine sites to operations once they are project-ready.

  • Driving low-impact, safety-conscious mining strategies with an emphasis on automation and minimal human exposure underground.

Ideal Profile:

  • 15-20 years of experience in underground coal mining, with exposure to both Longwall and Continuous Miner methods.

  • Strong track record in mine development, feasibility studies, and greenfield project delivery.

  • Engineering or Geology qualifications; MBA desirable.

  • Previous leadership of technical teams and multi-site development programs.

  • Experience working in or with international and cross-cultural teams; exposure to India a plus.

  • SSE certification or similar highly regarded.

  • Willingness to relocate to Ahmedabad, one of India's most vibrant, modern cities (population 8 million).

Appointment:
3-year residential assignment, with the option to extend by 2 additional years.
