Role Summary

We are seeking a
Lead Database Developer
to oversee all database-related activities for our OLTP product engineering team. This role combines deep technical expertise in SQL Server with leadership responsibilities, ensuring robust design, development, performance optimization, and operational excellence for high-volume transactional systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Design & Development
  • Architect and implement efficient OLTP database schemas for high-performance transactional workloads.
  • Develop and optimize stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views using T-SQL.
  • Collaborate with product engineering teams to ensure database solutions meet scalability and reliability requirements.
  • Performance Optimization
  • Analyze and tune queries, indexes, and execution plans for optimal performance.
  • Implement strategies for concurrency control, locking, and transaction management.
  • Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in production environments.
  • Leadership & Collaboration
  • Act as the primary database expert for product engineering teams.
  • Mentor developers on SQL Server best practices and data modeling.
  • Define and enforce coding standards and database development guidelines.
  • Deployment & Delivery
  • Oversee database changes through development, testing, and production environments.
  • Work closely with DevOps teams to integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Training & Documentation
  • Conduct training sessions for developers and QA teams on database design and optimization.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of database architecture and operational procedures.
  • Production System Monitoring
  • Monitor database health, availability, and performance using SQL Server features.
  • Set up alerts and dashboards for proactive issue detection.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Backup & Recovery Strategies
  • Design and implement robust backup and recovery plans for mission-critical OLTP systems.
  • Test and validate disaster recovery procedures regularly.
  • Ensure compliance with data retention and security policies.

Required Skills

  • Advanced expertise in
    Microsoft SQL Server
    (2016/2022 or higher).
  • Strong proficiency in
    T-SQL
    , query optimization, and indexing strategies.
  • Deep understanding of
    OLTP systems
    , ACID principles, and concurrency control.
  • Experience with
    performance tuning
    ,
    monitoring
    , and
    backup/recovery
    for high-volume environments.
  • Familiarity with
    CI/CD for database deployments
    and version control tools.

Preferred

  • Experience in
    product engineering
    for large-scale transactional applications.
  • Knowledge of
    SSIS

    .
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate or Database Developer).
