The Ward Incharge is responsible for supervising and managing the nursing and support staff in the ward, ensuring quality patient care, maintaining discipline, and ensuring smooth ward operations as per hospital policies and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care Management
- Ensure that all patients receive timely and appropriate nursing care.
- Monitor patient condition and coordinate with doctors for treatment and care plans.
- Ensure implementation of doctors' orders accurately and promptly.
- Supervise administration of medication and maintenance of patient records.
2. Staff Supervision & Coordination
- Allocate duties and responsibilities to staff nurses and ward attendants.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of ward staff.
- Ensure adequate staff coverage on all shifts.
- Provide guidance, motivation, and training to nursing staff.
3. Ward Administration
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control standards in the ward.
- Ensure proper documentation of patient records, admission/discharge registers, and incident reports.
- Oversee inventory management – medicines, consumables, and equipment.
- Coordinate with housekeeping, dietary, maintenance, and other departments for ward operations.
4. Patient & Family Communication
- Address patient and family concerns promptly and professionally.
- Provide education to patients and families about care plans, procedures, and post-discharge instructions.
5. Quality & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, NABH standards, and safety guidelines.
- Conduct regular ward rounds and audits.
- Participate in training programs, fire drills, and infection control meetings.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: GNM / B.Sc. Nursing (Registered with State Nursing Council)
- Experience: Minimum 5–7 years of nursing experience.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Clinical expertise and decision-making ability.
- Knowledge of hospital protocols and quality standards.
- Empathy, patience, and teamwork skills.
- Good computer and documentation skills.
