Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented BIOS/UEFI/Coreboot Engineer with deep expertise in x86 architecture, Intel FSP, and Coreboot-based firmware development. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with platform bring-up, BIOS boot flows, and low-level hardware initialization. This role requires a strong command of C programming, in-depth knowledge of x86 BIOS internals, and the ability to work with open-source firmware stacks.

Job Overview

As part of the firmware development team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining BIOS firmware for x86 platforms. This includes working with Coreboot, Intel FSP, UEFI payloads, and platform-specific configurations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware, OS, and validation teams, to ensure seamless system boot and platform readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain BIOS firmware based on Coreboot, UEFI, and Intel FSP for x86-based platforms.
  • Perform mainboard porting and board bring-up, including GPIO configuration, PCIe lane mapping, and memory initialization.
  • Work on BIOS/firmware-level support for industry-standard interfaces and protocols (e.g., SPI, eSPI, PCIe, ACPI, SMM).
  • Understand and implement boot flow transitions from Coreboot/FSP to various payloads (EDK2, SeaBIOS, Tianocore).
  • Customize and maintain the devicetree and UPDs within the Coreboot framework.
  • Read and interpret platform hardware and processor specifications to determine firmware design and implementation strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support custom BIOS requirements and platform features.
  • Manage code using Git, perform code reviews, and coordinate BIOS releases to QA.
  • Work with Linux build environments and tools used in firmware development.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 5 to 15 years of hands-on experience in BIOS/UEFI or firmware development.
  • Proficiency in C programming, especially in low-level system code.
  • Deep understanding of x86/x86_64 CPU architecture and system initialization flows.
  • Strong experience with Coreboot boot stages, FSP boot flow, UPD configuration, memory map setup, and devicetree handling.
  • Experience with Intel FSP source and integration into Coreboot.
  • Hands-on experience with mainboard porting for Coreboot-based firmware.
  • Familiarity with payloads like EDK2, SeaBIOS, and Tianocore.
  • Working knowledge of protocols such as PCIe, SPI, eSPI, ACPI, and SMM.
  • Good understanding of UEFI boot flow and ability to map UEFI concepts into FSP implementations.
  • Ability to read hardware schematics, processor datasheets, and platform reference manuals.

Preferred/Additional Skills

  • Strong understanding of open-source firmware development processes.
  • Experience working on customer-specific platforms or ODM environments.
  • Familiarity with Linux kernel-level concepts and tools (e.g., Kconfig).
  • Scripting and automation experience for build and test environments.
  • Ability to multitask and support multiple platform requests with varying custom BIOS needs.
  • Familiarity with BIOS-level security features and boot time optimizations.
