Senior Virtualization Engineer

Manage and maintain virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere/ESXi, vCenter, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer, or KVM.

Oversee capacity planning, performance tuning, and resource optimization of the virtual infrastructure.

Integrate virtualization with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud) to support hybrid environments.

Lead the development and enforcement of virtualization best practices, policies, and security standards.

Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis on complex issues affecting virtual infrastructure.

Collaborate with networking, storage, security, and application teams to deliver integrated solutions.

Implement and maintain disaster recovery strategies and business continuity plans.

Mentor and guide junior engineers and support staff, providing technical leadership and training.

Evaluate and recommend new virtualization technologies and tools that align with organizational goals.

Develop detailed documentation, architecture diagrams, and SOPs for internal use and audits.

Design, deploy, and maintain virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix, KVM).

Monitor and manage virtualized environments, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and security.

Perform regular system updates, patches, and upgrades to virtualization infrastructure.

Plan and implement disaster recovery solutions and backups for virtual machines.

Collaborate with storage, networking, and application teams to ensure seamless integration.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to virtual machines, hypervisors, and related infrastructure.

Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and policies.

Ensure high availability and business continuity for critical applications hosted in virtual environments.

Evaluate and recommend new virtualization tools and best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure with a strong focus on virtualization.

5+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere, vSAN, vCenter, and NSX, or Microsoft Hyper-V.

Proficiency in PowerShell, Python, or other scripting languages for automation and orchestration.

Experience with virtualization monitoring and management tools (e.g., vRealize, SolarWinds, Nagios).

Solid understanding of networking (VLANs, routing, firewalls) and storage integration with virtual environments.

Experience with backup, replication, and disaster recovery for virtualized workloads.

Strong knowledge of security and compliance standards in virtual environments.

Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls) in virtual environments.

Experience with virtual machine backup and disaster recovery solutions.

Knowledge of scripting (PowerShell, Bash, etc.) for automation tasks.

Familiarity with monitoring tools and performance tuning techniques.

Certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator are highly desirable.

Preferred Certifications:

VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP)

Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect / Administrator

Citrix Certified Expert – Virtualization (CCE-V)

AWS or GCP certification related to infrastructure or hybrid cloud

Preferred Skills:

Experience with hybrid cloud or cloud migration projects.

Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and integration with virtualized environments.

Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or vRealize Automation.

Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, etc.) is an advantage.

Understanding of ITIL practices for incident and change management.
