Job Description: Team Lead – QM Live Underwriting (US Mortgage)

Location: Chennai / Bangalore
Salary Range: ₹13–14 LPA
Experience: 2+ years leading underwriting teams (QM, Non-QM) | Total experience 5–8 years preferred

Note - US work hours (US Shift (6/7 PM to 3/4 AM) ), Monday to Friday, work from Office

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Team Lead – US Mortgage Underwriting to manage and mentor a team of up to 20 underwriters handling QM, Non-QM, and traditional underwriting. This role requires deep domain knowledge, strong people leadership, and client-facing capability to ensure high-quality, compliant, and timely loan decisions.

Key Responsibilities
Team & Process Leadership

Lead, manage, and coach a team of up to 20 underwriters across QM, Non-QM, and UW processes.

Ensure daily production, quality, and SLA adherence for all underwriting queues.

Conduct regular performance reviews, feedback sessions, and quality audits.

Drive process excellence through continuous improvement, SOP compliance, and risk mitigation.

Underwriting Expertise

Review and validate loan files under QM, Non-QM, DU/LP, and investor guidelines.

  • Strong knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, GNMA, and investor guidelines.

  • Comprehensive understanding of Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loans

Provide decision support and escalations on complex loan scenarios.

Ensure compliance with US Mortgage regulations, investor guidelines, and company standards.

Client Interaction & Stakeholder Management

Participate in client calls, weekly business reviews, and escalations.

Manage communication between operations, quality, training, and client teams.

Represent the process for governance, compliance, and performance discussions internally and with US clients.

Required Skills & Experience

Minimum 2 years experience as a Team Lead handling QM, Non-QM, and Underwriting teams.

Must have completed Graduation in any discipline. 

Total experience 5–8 years in US mortgage underwriting or mortgage operations.

Proven track record managing teams up to 20 members in a fast-paced environment.

Strong understanding of ATR/QM rules, AUS findings, income/credit/collateral review.

Excellent communication skills and proven client-facing capability.

Ability to manage deadlines, drive productivity, and maintain regulatory compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

DE/SAR certification (added advantage but not mandatory).

Experience working with US lenders, investors, or mortgage BPO environments.

Hands-on experience in process transitions, calibrations, and workflow optimization.
