They help students with course selection, registration, and program planning, while also offering support for challenges and monitoring academic progress. Their goal is to help students make informed decisions, develop personalized plans, and achieve their full potential.

Key responsibilities of an academic counsellor

• Academic guidance:
   Help students choose courses and majors that align with their interests and career goals.
• Administrative support:
   Assist with registration, keeping track of deadlines, and submitting necessary paperwork for programs or graduation.
• Progress monitoring:
   Track student progress and help identify and support students who may be at risk.
• Personalized planning:
   Develop personalized strategies by assessing a student's strengths, weaknesses, and aspirations to help them maximize their potential.
• Resource referral:
   Inform students about and encourage them to use campus resources like libraries, tutoring services, and career centers.
• Policy information:
   Keep students informed about university policies, degree requirements, and any changes to academic standards.
