Job Context
Renusagar Power Plant, the captive power plant of Hindalco Industries Ltd., Renukoot, was established in 1964 and has undergone four major expansions, growing from 2 to 10 generating units with a total capacity of 741.7 MW. This expansion has significantly increased the township's infrastructure and population, with over 2,000 residential quarters accommodating around 10,000 residents.
The Security and Town Administration Department plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, security, and harmonious living of all employees and residents in both the plant and township. The department manages a security workforce of over 400 personnel and operates with an annual budget exceeding 30 lakhs.
The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining law and order, ensuring effective security coverage, managing traffic flow, and providing a peaceful and secure working environment. The role demands proactive planning, continuous innovation in security measures, and strong leadership to uphold internal and external customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Shift Supervision:
Coordinate and lead the activities of all Shift Sergeants as Shift In-Charge – Security, ensuring effective deployment and supervision of over 200 security personnel across plant and township areas covering approximately 25 sq. km. - Perimeter and Asset Security:
Monitor and manage security arrangements at Loading Station, Jhingurdah (20 km from Renusagar), a high-risk area prone to intrusion or raids by miscreants. - External Deployment Oversight:
Supervise and assess the deployment of 70+ private security guards across remote facilities such as the transmission line at Morwa and the Long-Distance Ash Disposal Line to the new ash dyke spanning 20 sq. km. - Incident Management:
Handle disputes or disturbances within the plant and township during shift hours. Take immediate corrective actions to prevent escalation into law-and-order situations. - Investigations:
Conduct preliminary investigations into all security-related incidents and recommend or initiate appropriate remedial measures. - Manpower Optimization:
Periodically review and rationalize security manpower deployment to ensure maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness. - Traffic Management:
Ensure smooth vehicular movement within the township, managing heavy daily traffic involving 1,500+ coal and ash dumpers, maintaining safety and order.
Major Challenges
- Managing a large, multi-location security operation spanning plant, township, and remote facilities with limited resources.
- Ensuring real-time response to incidents across dispersed and high-risk areas.
- Maintaining law and order in a densely populated township housing 10,000 residents.
- Balancing security vigilance with a harmonious residential atmosphere.
- Coordinating effectively with external agencies, private security vendors, and internal departments.
- Continuously upgrading security protocols to meet evolving threats and operational demands.
- Managing high traffic density and ensuring the safety of both personnel and material movement within the township.
