Role Overview :
The DB2 Patch Management professional will be responsible for end-to-end patching of IBM DB2 databases, including fix pack installations, security updates, and HADR checks. The role involves planning, testing, deploying, and validating patches, automating patching tasks, and ensuring system stability and compliance with security standards in a 247 support environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Automate DB2 patching tasks, including fix pack installations, DB2 CLI commands, and HADR checks.
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM DB2 databases on AIX and Windows platforms.
- Perform routine DBA tasks such as backup, recovery, and instance monitoring.
- Plan and execute DB2 Fix Packs, Security Updates, and remediate HIPER/APAR vulnerabilities.
- Coordinate with Application, Infrastructure, and Change Management teams for patch scheduling.
- Conduct patch testing in Sandbox and Non-Production environments, including rollback testing.
- Validate patches post-deployment in collaboration with application teams.
- Perform vulnerability scans and ensure timely remediation of security gaps.
- Support audits, maintain documentation, and provide RCA for patch-related incidents.
- Implement and manage rollback procedures when required.
Required Skills
- Hands-on experience in DB2 administration and patch management.
- Strong knowledge of patching procedures, rollback strategies, and vulnerability management.
- Familiarity with OS-level security tools and scripting for automation (remote shell, log parsing).
- Knowledge of backup and recovery processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
