Tableau Developer (Linux Environment)

A Tableau Developer working in a Linux environment is responsible for designing,developing, and deploying Tableau dashboards while ensuring seamless integration,automation, and performance tuning on Linux-based servers.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Dashboard Development- Design and develop interactive Tableau dashboards and reports based on business requirements. Implement advanced Tableau functionalities, including calculated fields, parameters, blending, and actions.

  2. Data Integration- Connect Tableau to various data sources, including SQL databases, flat files, and cloud storage. Write efficient SQL queries and optimize data extracts for performance.

  3. Linux Environment Configuration- Manage Tableau Server installation, configuration, and upgrades on Linux. Troubleshoot Linux-based Tableau Server issues, including performance bottlenecks and permissions.

  4. Performance Optimization- Optimize dashboard performance by improving data connections, extracts, and calculations. Monitor server performance on Linux using tools like top, htop, or monitoring dashboards.

  5. Automation and Scheduling- Create and manage schedules for data extract refreshes and subscriptions. Automate workflows using Tableau REST API, Tableau Server Command Line (Tabcmd), or scripting languages like Python or Bash.

  6. Collaboration Work closely with business analysts, data engineers, and stakeholders to gather requirements. Ensure dashboards align with business objectives and provide actionable insights.

  7. Security and Governance- Set up and manage user roles, groups, and permissions on Tableau Server. Enforce security best practices for sensitive data.

  8. Documentation and Training- Document dashboard logic, server configurations, and troubleshooting guides.Provide training and support to end-users for effective Tableau usage.

Skills and Expertise

Technical Skills

  1. Tableau Development - Proficiency in Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server. Advanced knowledge of calculated fields, LOD (Level of Detail) expressions, and parameters. Expertise in dashboard performance tuning.

  2. Linux Environment- Experience in installing and configuring Tableau Server on Linux. Proficiency in Linux command-line tools (e.g., grep, awk, sed) for troubleshooting. Familiarity with file permissions, cron jobs, and shell scripting.

  3. Data Handling- Strong SQL skills for querying and preparing data. Experience working with data warehouses (e.g., Redshift, Snowflake, ClickHouse). Knowledge of ETL tools (preferred but not mandatory).

  4. Automation- Experience with Tableau REST API and Tableau Server Command Line (Tabcmd). Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

  5. Performance Monitoring- Use of monitoring tools to track Tableau Server performance (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, or native Tableau Server logs).

Experience Requirements
3–5 years of experience in Tableau development and Tableau Server administration.1–2 years of experience working in a Linux environment.

Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, ClickHouse, Snowflake, Redshift.

Linux Tools: SSH, crontab, systemd, log analyzers.
