Dialysis Staff Nurse

Clinical Care
- Assess patient's pre-dialysis condition (vital signs, weight, vascular access site, laboratory values).
- Prepare and prime dialysis machines, dialyzers, and necessary consumables before each session.
- Initiate, monitor, and terminate dialysis sessions as per protocol.
- Monitor patient status (BP, HR, symptoms) throughout the procedure and respond to complications (hypotension, cramps, bleeding, etc.).
- Administer prescribed medications (e.g., heparin, erythropoietin, iron supplements) during dialysis.
- Provide post-dialysis care, including vital sign assessment and vascular access site management.
- Assist in peritoneal dialysis procedures and patient training when required.
Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with nephrologists, dialysis technicians, and dieticians to deliver holistic patient care.
- Educate patients and families about dialysis procedures, diet, fluid restrictions, and access care.
- Coordinate with laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy for investigations and treatment support.
- Collaborates with interdepartmental teams to provide quality patient care.
- Report abnormal findings and patient concerns promptly to the nephrologist or medical team.
Documentation & Administration
- Maintain accurate dialysis records: pre/post vital signs, machine parameters,
- medications, and patient responses.
- Record incidents, adverse events, and interventions accurately.
- Ensure proper handover between shifts with complete patient information.
- Raise requisitions for dialysis consumables and medications in time.
Safety & Quality
- Ensure infection prevention practices during vascular access cannulation and dialysis sessions.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique for central venous catheters, AV fistulas, and grafts.
- Monitor and ensure proper functioning of dialysis machines and water treatment systems.
- Report and escalate equipment malfunctions or safety hazards.
- Adhere to hospital and national standards for dialysis care.
Education & Teamwork
- Provide guidance to patients on self-care and long-term vascular access maintenance.
- Mentor junior staff and students in dialysis nursing skills.
- Participate in continuous education, workshops, and certification programs in nephrology/dialysis nursing.
- Contribute to quality improvement programs, audits, and infection control committees.
