ORGANISATION : This position reports to Senior Data expert in the company headquarters. You will support strategic and operational decisions through advanced data analytics, ensuring our client remains at the forefront of the industry. You will help implementation of analytical capabilities and various data points across the companys assets. This role is crucial for leveraging data for ensuring that the organization has a competitive edge in the industry. If you're someone who thrives on building robust data systems and loves solving real-world data challenges, this is the role for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable cloud-based data lakes, warehouses, and ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Optimize cloud environments for high availability and performance—your systems will support 24/7 operations across global fleets.
  • Enforce data protection protocols and compliance with standards like GDPR and SOC2 to ensure security of sensitive ship and operational data.
  • Automate pipeline workflows using tools such as Apache Airflow to reduce manual intervention and improve reliability.
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists to prep and deliver clean datasets for predictive models around fuel consumption, maintenance, and more.
  • Troubleshoot issues in data pipelines and infrastructure, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable fixes.
  • Maintain clear data documentation and source mappings to make life easier for business and analytics users.
  • Continuously explore new tools and techniques to enhance pipeline resilience and data quality.
  • Work closely with engineering peers, IT Ops, and cross-functional stakeholders across time zones to deliver practical data solutions.
  • Simplify technical concepts for non-technical users—including ship crew—and ensure solutions are both usable and scalable.
  • Participate in team code reviews, mentorship sessions, and continuous learning—no maritime experience required, just a strong curiosity to learn.

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer, with strong skills in SQL, PySpark, and Airflow.
  • Hands-on experience with Data Lake/Warehouse design, relational databases (Postgres, MySQL, Oracle), and big data tools like Spark, Hive, or Presto.
  • Proficiency in AWS services like EC2, S3, EMR, and experience managing infrastructure involving Spark, Hive, and Presto.
  • Experience in Generative AI model usage, tuning, and configuration using frameworks like LangChain, Vertex AI, or Hugging Face.
  • Experience in ML model development (Python/R, Scikit-learn, PyTorch) and familiarity with MLOps tools such as SageMaker or ECR.
  • Knowledge of data governance and security standards (GDPR, SOC2) and strong documentation practices.
  • Familiarity with other cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or Azure.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts for business stakeholders.
