Position Description: The University of Chicago Trust DPIC India is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer (Consultant) to join the grievance-redressal project and develop machine-learning (ML) and NLP solutions for grievance classification, routing, clustering, and summarization. The consultant will work closely with the DPIC team, researchers at the University of Chicago to support integration of OCR pipelines, implement supervised and unsupervised ML models, and ensure outputs feed into client-facing dashboards. The role requires experience in NLP frameworks, cloud-based machine-learning workflows, and model evaluation, with strong collaboration skills to work in agile sprints alongside students, researchers, and DPIC staff. The project may also require familiarity with open-source large language models, including fine-tuning and inference.

About the Trust : The University of Chicago Trust (The Trust) is a charitable trust in India, established in 2008 by alumnus of The University of Chicago. The Trust's objectives are to provide opportunities for grants to support educational programs, research programs and activities for the betterment of India.

Project Description: DPIC is developing an AI-driven analytical engine designed to improve grievance redressal in Odisha by processing citizen complaints from structured and unstructured text, scanned PDFs, and handwritten forms. The goal is to use machine learning and AI to automate tasks, reduce administrative burden, improve redressal efficiency and support advanced analytics.

About the Unit: Data, Policy, and Innovation Centre (DPIC) is a 5-year strategic partnership between Government of Odisha (GoOdisha) and University of Chicago Trust, India. The Centre, funded by the GoOdisha will enable rigorous, evidence-based governance, using new advances in econometrics, data-science, and machine learning. In addition, the Centre will create a of hub for modern data analysis that will focus on the use of data to improve decision-making process in the state of Odisha and increase the data capabilities of GoOdisha officials
