Main Purpose:

The Senior Reservoir Engineer in CBM fields is responsible for leading the reservoir characterization, simulation, and optimization of methane gas production from coal seams. This role involves conducting technical analyses to support field development, enhance production, and ensure economic recovery of CBM reserves. The engineer will also lead or collaborate on well testing, reservoir modeling, and field development strategies to maximize recovery and minimize operational costs.

Job Accountabilities:

Reservoir Simulation and Modeling:

  • Develop and update dynamic reservoir models for CBM fields to simulate gas production, water management, and pressure behavior over time.
  • Conduct sensitivity analysis on reservoir parameters (e.g., permeability, porosity, gas saturation) and well performance to optimize the recovery factor.
  • Use industry-standard software tools (e.g., Eclipse, CMG, or other CBM-specific simulators) for reservoir modeling and performance predictions.
  • Work closely with geologists to integrate data and improve the accuracy of the reservoir models.
  • Estimate reserves and production forecasts using industry-standard methods2

CBM Field Development and Optimization:

  • Conduct reservoir studies to identify the most efficient and cost-effective field development strategies (e.g., well placement, dewatering, fracturing).
  • Provide inputs to optimize well completion strategies, horizontal and vertical wells drilling program, fracturing, and production techniques specific to CBM.
  • Analyze historical production data to identify trends and develop optimization strategies.
  • Perform well performance analyses, including decline curve analysis, pressure transient analysis (PTA), and material balance calculations.

Well Testing and Monitoring:

  • Design and oversee the implementation of well testing programs (e.g., pressure build-up, Injection Fall off tests).
  • Monitor well performance on an ongoing basis and recommend appropriate actions to maintain or enhance production.

Reservoir Management and Reporting:

  • Prepare and present detailed reservoir reports, including production forecasts, reserve estimates, and field development plans, for internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Contribute to the preparation of business plans, budgets, and operational strategies based on reservoir performance and economic evaluations.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for CBM field performance and make recommendations for improvement.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in reservoir engineering, with a focus on CBM or unconventional reservoirs (e.g., shale, tight gas).

Skills Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of reservoir engineering principles and techniques.
  • Proficiency in CBM-specific reservoir simulation software (e.g., Eclipse, CMG, Petra, or similar).
  • Experience with well test analysis, pressure transient analysis (PTA), and decline curve analysis.
  • Strong understanding of gas production, reservoir engineering, and gas-water management in CBM fields.
  • Familiarity with geological and petrophysical data integration.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, collaborating effectively with different departments.
