The center plays a crucial role in advancing the technology and operational efficiency of the maritime industry in India.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a VTMS Operator - Second Mate Officer located in Chennai. The VTMS Operator will be responsible for monitoring vessel traffic, ensuring safe and efficient navigation within the port area, coordinating with port authorities and ship personnel, and maintaining communication with vessels. Daily tasks include surveillance using radar and AIS, data logging, incident reporting, and providing navigational assistance as required.
Qualifications
- Understanding of vessel traffic management systems (VTMS) and maritime navigation
- Experience in radar and AIS operation and monitoring
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in the maritime or port sector
- Certification as a Second Mate Officer
- Proficiency in English (both written and verbal)
- Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies or a related field is preferred
