Senior Mechanical Engineer

Clients often approach us with unique challenges that require a creative outlook and an adaptable skill set. Some products our founders have developed include Whoop 4, Whoop MG, Nuro self-driving car, and the Lumia earpiece. 

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with 7 to 10 years of experience. This is a client-facing role where you will have the opportunity to collaborate with world-class engineers while developing novel products that may not exist in the world.

Salary range for this role is ₹14,00,000 - ₹18,00,000 per annum. Within the salary range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training.

Job Description

You will be called upon to develop solutions at the system level as well as take on the detailed mechanical design work and prototyping required to realise your concept. You need to have a mechanical background with proven working knowledge of developing consumer products.

Roles and responsibilities are:

• Design, analyze, and validate mechanical hardware including integration with complex electronics, for low volumes through mass production.
• Design a moderately complex subsystem or multiple individual parts from concept to production.
• Transform ambiguous requests and vendor reference designs into working custom solutions
• Balance design considerations such as functionality, sustainability, reliability, human factors, manufacturability, and aesthetics.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to conduct research, brainstorm, prototype, test, analyze, document, and present work to clients; and guide teams to win follow-on work.
• Share insights on promising directions for new client opportunities, provide technical support for new business development, and devise and execute strategies to meet project and client goals.
• Implement design changes to improve product reliability, reduce costs, and enhance performance, while ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards
• Maintain thorough documentation of design changes, test results, and validation processes.
• Support of manufacturing and supply chain, including developing partnerships with part manufacturers and CM's, selecting and managing external contractors, selecting and qualifying suppliers, developing functional tests, and guiding the design of automated electrical test platforms
• Up to 15% travel domestically and internationally to clients, partners, suppliers, and contract manufacturers

What We Are Looking For

You should have experience solving tough problems within one or more of the following areas: mechatronics, structural design, dynamics, thermal engineering, fluid dynamics, optics, controls, acoustics, precision mechanical systems, product engineering, and design for manufacturing. A broad range is a plus.  

• B.Tech (M.Tech is a plus) in mechanical engineering and 3 to 5 years of full-time work experience developing complex, technical, and integrated products.
• Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, gauge R&R, GD&T, and 3D/2D CAD. Experience using Onshape is a plus.
• Familiarity with traditional mass-manufacturing processes, skills, and limitations of each: injection molding, metal injection molding, CNC machining, sheet metal, ultrasonic welding, overmolding, and others.
• Comfort with rapid prototyping techniques like 3D printing (FDM, SLA, PolyJet, DLP, MJF), laser cutting, and similar.
• Hands-on experience in operating/maintaining rapid prototyping tools
• Working knowledge of material properties, such as plastics, metal, adhesive, and glass.
• Exposure to the full product lifecycle from concept generation to product release/launch, and NPI.
• Experience managing overseas vendors like components suppliers, CMs, OEM, JDMs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable explaining complex engineering concepts to both a technical and non-technical audience.
• Experience making connections with technical stakeholders to ensure project and product successes.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills, a willingness to get your hands dirty and a big appetite for self-directed learning.

Desired but not required:

• Experience in developing high-reliability consumer products at high volumes, preferably with integrated biomedical sensors like ECG, PPG, SpO₂, GSR, BIA, or similar.
• Experience with compression molding, LSR molding, micro-molding, thin-wall molding.
• Testing and analysis experience (FEA, Simulation, Design of Experiments, etc.).
• Experience designing products with IP68 rating.
• Experience with highly cosmetic products and working with Industrial Design.
• Experience designing for human factors.
• Experience designing and shipping products with Asia-based supply chain.
