Role Overview

The Cloud & Data Center Architect provides strategic and technical leadership for the organizations hybrid cloud, SaaS, and on-premises data center environments. The role focuses on architecture governance, cloud transformation, and infrastructure modernization and optimization, ensuring platforms are designed with security-by-design, high availability, scalability, regulatory compliance, and cost efficiency.

This position enables cloud adoption, data center modernization, and SaaS integration while balancing innovation with resilience, risk management, and operational stability, and plays a critical role in supporting business continuity, disaster recovery, audit readiness, and enterprise risk management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and govern hybrid and multi-cloud architectures across Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services
  • Architect secure, scalable, and highly available cloud and on-premises infrastructure
  • Define reference architectures, standards, and design patterns for infrastructure services
  • Lead modernization initiatives including cloud migration, data center consolidation, and legacy transformation

Cloud Operations & Optimization

  • Ensure efficient, optimal, and cost-effective use of cloud resources (FinOps practices)
  • Implement capacity planning, rightsizing, and cost governance controls
  • Optimize performance, availability, and resilience of workloads
  • Define and enforce infrastructure lifecycle management

Security & Compliance Architecture

  • Embed security-by-design and zero trust principles across cloud and data center environments
  • Architect identity, access management, network segmentation, encryption, and logging
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2, etc.)
  • Partner with security teams on threat modelling and risk mitigation

SaaS & Platform Integration

  • Architect secure integration of SaaS applications with cloud and on-prem systems
  • Define standards for SaaS onboarding, identity federation, and data protection
  • Ensure availability, scalability, and resilience of critical SaaS platforms

Networking & Connectivity

  • Design cloud and data center networking (VPC/VNet, routing, firewalls, load balancers)
  • Architect secure hybrid connectivity (VPN, ExpressRoute / Direct Connect)
  • Ensure high availability and low-latency connectivity across environments

Governance, Reliability & Operations

  • Define SLAs, SLOs, and availability targets for infrastructure services
  • Support incident response, root cause analysis, and reliability improvements
  • Create and maintain architecture documentation, diagrams, and standards
  • Provide architectural guidance to engineering, operations, and leadership teams

Stakeholder & Client Engagement

  • Engage with customer teams to understand business and technical requirements.
  • Create architecture diagrams, HLDs, LLDs, and design documents
  • Mentor engineering and operations teams

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure and/or AWS cloud architecture
  • Deep understanding of data center technologies (compute, storage, networking, virtualization)
  • Experience designing hybrid and multi-cloud architectures
  • Proficiency in cloud networking, security controls, and identity management
  • Experience with SaaS platforms and enterprise integrations
  • Strong knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability platforms

Architecture & Engineering Skills

  • Ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical architectures
  • Experience defining reference architectures and design standards
  • Strong understanding of cost optimization and FinOps principles
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Knowledge of high availability, fault tolerance, and resilience patterns

Soft Skills & Leadership

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to influence architectural decisions across teams
  • Structured problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Documentation and presentation skills for executive and technical audiences

Experience & Education

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in infrastructure, cloud, or architecture roles
  • Bachelors degree in engineering, Computer Science, or related field (preferred)

Preferred Certifications

  • Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • AWS Solutions Architect Professional
  • Data Center / Networking certifications (added advantage)
