Job Purpose:
To lead and manage nursing care in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit by supervising staff, ensuring high standards of clinical care, maintaining patient safety, and coordinating with doctors and allied healthcare teams. The PICU Incharge is responsible for the smooth functioning of the unit and adherence to hospital protocols and NABH/JCI standards.
Key Responsibilities:Clinical & Patient Care
- Oversee delivery of high-quality nursing care for critically ill paediatric patients.
- Monitor patient conditions and ensure timely interventions as directed by physicians.
- Ensure strict adherence to infection control practices, medication safety, and care protocols.
- Provide expert clinical support in emergencies and complex paediatric cases.
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise and guide nursing staff, allocate duties, and manage shift schedules.
- Mentor, train, and evaluate staff nurses in the PICU.
- Ensure adequate nurse-to-patient ratio is maintained.
- Conduct handover briefings and monitor documentation standards.
Administration & Coordination
- Coordinate with doctors, paediatricians, intensivists, and allied health professionals for patient management.
- Ensure timely availability of equipment, medicines, and consumables.
- Maintain PICU records, audits, and reports as per hospital policies.
- Implement NABH/JCI and hospital quality protocols in the unit.
Quality & Safety
- Monitor and enforce compliance with clinical safety standards.
- Report incidents, near misses, and take corrective actions.
- Ensure biomedical waste management and safe use of medical equipment.
- Conduct regular training sessions on BLS, ACLS, and paediatric emergency care.
Skills & Competencies Required:
- Strong clinical knowledge of paediatric critical care nursing.
- Leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to remain calm and take quick decisions in emergencies.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Proficiency in PICU equipment (ventilators, infusion pumps, monitors, etc.).
- Knowledge of NABH/JCI standards in ICU care.
Qualifications & Experience:
