A Shunter plays a vital role in railway operations, primarily responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trains and rail vehicles within sidings, and terminals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Train Assembly & Movement:
• Move trains and train coached to build or split trains.
• Couple and uncouple rolling stock.
• Position trains correctly on tracks or platforms.
• Operate track switches and points manually or via remote control.
• Safety & Inspection:
• Conduct safety checks on trains and rail infrastructure.
• Apply and release parking brakes / brakes as needed.
• Report defects or irregularities to supervisors.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures.
• Coordination & Communication:
• Work under the direction of Controller or Lead Shunters.
• Communicate with train drivers, signal operators, and dispatchers.
• Maintain records of train movements and inspections.
• Technical Operations:
• Operate shunting locomotives and related equipment.
• Use remote control devices for train movement.
• Understand train operating procedures and mechanical principles.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Minimum: ITI/ diploma.
• Certificate: Shunting or equivalent (if nay is preferable)
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• High attention to detail and safety awareness
