About the Team

Mercury is Lowe's operational system for International Transportation, designed to centralize the management of import shipments and streamline collaboration with supporting third parties. The platform oversees critical functions such as master data management, visibility, cost estimation, and forecasting.

By enabling process-driven workflows and automation, Mercury provides role-based visibility into ongoing operations. It brings together multiple data sources, facilitates real-time communication, and delivers actionable insights that empower users to make informed decisions and drive efficiency.

Job Summary:

We are hiring for a role within Lowe's Supply Chain – Transportation (International) domain. This position will lead the engineering team in driving the design, development, configuration, testing, and continuous enhancements of transportation solutions. The role involves overseeing the successful implementation and maintenance of business and enterprise software systems to ensure smooth deployment and adoption. Additionally, the position is accountable for providing strategic insights and recommendations that shape the technology roadmap, strengthen system performance, and support the overall health of the transportation portfolio.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities:

  • Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing engineering team while effectively managing team performance.
  • Take end-to-end engineering and delivery ownership of one or more products throughout their lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to maintain a balanced product backlog, ensuring alignment between business needs and technical debt resolution.
  • Promote and enforce engineering best practices across the team.
  • Conduct design and code reviews, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges while guiding the team toward effective solutions.
  • Monitor and improve production stability metrics for the product(s).
  • Proactively identify integration dependencies across enterprise products and incorporate them into the product backlog.
  • Foster a culture of continuous innovation within the team and across the organization.
  • Represent the product's architecture and design within the Architecture and Leadership community.
  • Share knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned with the global engineering community.

Years of Experience:

  • 8 years of IT experience in software engineering or related field
  • 8 years of experience working on project(s) involving the implementation of software development life cycles (SDLC)
  • 3 years of experience leading project or technical teams with or without formal direct report responsibility; this includes experience providing technical direction, thought leadership, and coaching and mentoring team members

Education Qualification & Certifications (optional)

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer information systems (CIS), or related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree)

Skill Set Required

  • Minimum 2+ years of hands-on or leadership experience in at least two complex, distributed applications and platforms.
  • Strong understanding and working experience in:
  • Architectures: Distributed systems, Microservices, Event-driven architecture.
  • Performance & Scalability: Resilient, scalable, and high-performance engineering principles.
  • Programming: Java, Spring Boot, Reactive Programming (must have).
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Cloud technologies, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines.
  • Databases: Relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Messaging & Streaming: Kafka or equivalent technologies.
  • Testing Frameworks: Unit, Integration, and Performance testing.
  • Operating Systems: Experience in building applications on Unix/Linux.

Secondary Skills (desired)

  • Frontend Technologies: Experience with JavaScript frameworks such as and Redux.
  • ITIL Framework: Knowledge of IT Service Management best practices.
  • Third-Party Vendor Collaboration: Experience working with software solution providers.
  • Financial & Budget Management: Exposure to managing project budgets.
  • Retail Industry Experience: Prior experience in IT management within the retail sector.
