Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Primary Design Engineer to join our team. The role involves designing primary electrical systems/equipment within the HV/EHV electricity grid, substations, switchgears, and power plants. You will ensure projects are executed as per company procedures, contract specifications, quality standards, and timelines.

This position requires strong technical expertise, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and client interaction to deliver reliable and compliant design solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop primary systems for HV/EHV substations and power plants (132kV and above).
  • Prepare technical design documents – SLDs, layouts, sectional views, panel arrangements, cable schedules, earthing systems, and technical specifications.
  • Perform equipment sizing for transformers, circuit breakers, capacitors, conductors, and cables.
  • Conduct power system analysis using simulation tools (ETAP, DigSilent, etc.).
  • Support new connections and network upgrades, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and functional requirements.
  • Prepare and present design documentation to clients, vendors, and stakeholders for approval.
  • Assist in vendor tender documentation and technical evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, UK Grid Codes, and local regulatory standards.
  • Work safely in HV/EHV substations, adhering to HSE regulations (OSHA or equivalent).
  • Collaborate with project managers, secondary & civil design engineers for integrated project execution.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in Primary Design Engineering for HV/EHV substations, transmission lines, switchgears, or power plants.
  • Strong knowledge of Transmission & Distribution networks and protection schemes.
  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD (for SLDs, layouts, cable schedules, earthing).
  • Working knowledge of power system simulation software (ETAP, DigSilent, PowerFactory, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
  • Exposure to UK/Europe utilities or standards preferred.
  • Strong communication, reporting, and team coordination skills.
