Job Description:
Position Overview
DGM (Operations) will provide overall strategic direction, leadership, and guidance to the Operations, Technical, Instrumentation, and EHS departments to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient functioning of the plant. The role is accountable for ensuring statutory compliance, meeting production and business targets, and driving continuous improvement in operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Production
- Direct plant operations to meet production schedules, ensuring timely delivery of project milestones and deliverables.
- Monitor and minimize production costs through effective resource management and process optimization.
- Identify and manage project dependencies, critical paths, and operational risks.
- Provide proactive solutions to bottlenecks by managing project scope changes, identifying potential crises, and implementing corrective, preventive, and contingency measures.
- Ensure smooth functioning of the desalination plant and drive water conservation initiatives.
Policy, Compliance & Safety
- Establish, implement, and monitor departmental policies, goals, objectives, and procedures in alignment with organizational strategy.
- Ensure statutory compliance with all industry regulations and maintain adherence to safety requirements as per standards.
- Develop and recommend standard operating policies (SOPs) to ensure product quality and process consistency.
- Conduct risk analysis and implement mitigation strategies.
People Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and appraise performance of departmental heads and subordinates.
- Define roles, responsibilities, authority, and accountability for all direct subordinates.
- Ensure proper orientation and on-the-job training for staff, fostering a culture of safety, compliance, and performance.
- Coordinate activities across departments, ensuring effective collaboration with other units.
Financial & Strategic Management
- Prepare and review departmental budgets; recommend changes and obtain board approval.
- Review and approve cost-control reports, cost estimates, and manpower forecasts.
- Analyse financial statements, sales reports, and operational data to measure productivity, identify areas for cost reduction, and drive program improvements.
- Provide inputs to the business strategy, communicate strategic goals to the Board of Directors, and participate actively in board meetings.
Reporting & Review
- Review project progress reports, proposals, requirement documents, and presentations.
- Define reporting frequency and content for project teams; analyse results and troubleshoot problem areas.
- Develop best practices, tools, and systems for efficient project execution and management.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the management.
- Serve as a role model in upholding company values, ethics, and compliance standards.
- Promote a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Engineering Chemical. Masters degree in Management/Operations preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in operations management, with at least 57 years in a senior leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of plant operations, technical processes, instrumentation, and EHS regulations.
- Proven expertise in cost control, strategic planning, and cross-functional leadership.
