Laytime Analyst

The Role:

The candidate will be the first-response handler for accurate laytime calculations under purchase and sales contracts:

• Work closely with commercial teams in global offices

• Lead intricate cases and complex negotiations with counterparties

Main Responsibilities:

• Coordinate with Operations/Chartering and flag issues or exposures

• Analyse SOF, port docs, and sale/purchase contracts against Charter Party clauses to extract relevant data

• Produce accurate laytime (despatch/demurrage/detention) statements using company tools

• Prepare settlement notices and follow-ups with clear timelines per contract

• Review counterpart laytime computations vs. Operations estimates to ensure back-to-back settlement and assess exposures

• Maintain a database of payable/receivable claims, keeping commercial teams updated

• Negotiate/settle claims efficiently; escalate disputes when necessary

• Follow up on outstanding claims, recover dues, and support legal where disputes remain unresolved

• Handle invoicing, debit/credit notes, and late-payment charges

• Suggest process improvements to enhance productivity and service

Required Skills & Experience:

• Proven expertise in negotiating complex laytime claims

• Minimum 5 years relevant laytime/chartering/ops experience

• Strong knowledge of Charter Party clauses, demurrage/laytime terms, and trade contracts

• Excellent English communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail

• Energetic, self-motivated, team player with ownership mindset

• Proficient in MS Office; flexible to work extended/odd hours when required

Educational Qualification:

Graduate in any discipline with PG in Shipping Management or MBA in Supply Chain.
