As an SQL Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the setup, performance, integrity, and security of SQL Server databases. Your role will also include planning and development, as well as troubleshooting issues on behalf of the users.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Installation, Configuration, and Maintenance

  • Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server instances.
  • Set up advanced features like Always On Availability Groups and failover clustering.

2. Performance Tuning and Optimization

  • Monitor database performance and identify bottlenecks.
  • Optimize queries, manage indexes, and adjust server configurations for optimal performance.

3. Backup and Recovery

  • Design and implement robust backup and recovery strategies.
  • Conduct regular testing to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime during failures.

4. High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR)

  • Implement and manage HA/DR solutions such as Always On, clustering, and log shipping.
  • Ensure business continuity through disaster recovery planning.

5. Security and Compliance

  • Manage user access, roles, and permissions.
  • Enforce security policies and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.

6. Troubleshooting and Support

  • Diagnose and resolve database-related issues.
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
  • Collaborate with developers to support database-related operations.

7. Automation and Documentation

  • Develop scripts and tools to automate routine administrative tasks.
  • Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation of configurations, processes, and procedures.

Candidates who have passed any of the following Microsoft database-related certifications will have an added advantage:

Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate

Exam Code: DP-300 Administering Relational Databases on Microsoft Azure.

MCSA: SQL 2016 Database Administration

Exam Code: Administering a SQL Database Infrastructure.

MCSA: SQL 2016 Database Development or BI Development.
