Microchip Technology Inc. is a leading provider of embedded control applications. Our product portfolio comprises general purpose and specialized 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit microcontrollers, 32-bit microprocessors, field-programmable gate array (FPGA) products, a broad spectrum of high-performance linear, mixed-signal, power management, thermal management, radio frequency (RF), timing, safety, security, wired connectivity and wireless connectivity devices, as well as serial Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM), Serial Flash memories, Parallel Flash memories, and serial Static Random Access Memory (SRAM). We also license Flash-IP solutions that are incorporated in a broad range of products.

Job Description

Microchip's Data Center Solutions Business Unit (DCS) offers industry leading performance, reliability, and security for PCIe Switches, Smart Storage Controllers, RAID Controllers, SAS/SATA IO Controllers, SAS Expanders, and NVME Controllers.

The candidate will join the rapidly growing Data Center Solutions (DCS) business unit at Microchip.  DCS has a broad portfolio of products being broadly deployed today by the industry's cutting-edge server/storage OEMs and hyperscale datacenters.  Customers deploy DCS solutions into applications ranging from Big Data capacity storage to artificial intelligence and machine learning that are helping to shape the next digital age.  Our product portfolio includes SAS/PCIe/NVMe/CXL products that connect, manage and secure the world's information, including Flash Controllers, High Performance Switches, RAID Controllers and Memory Controllers.  Join a team where you can expand your skill set and drive key elements of the industry's technology leadership.

Our Applications Engineering Team is responsible for working closely with the Product Development Teams, Product Validation Teams, Marketing Teams, and Sales Teams to enable our storage/data center customers to bring their solutions to the market. We work with leading edge technology that gets deployed in data center, machine-learning/AI, and storage applications. We engage with customer engineering teams to assist in design wins, product ramps, and system production.  Responsibilities:

  • Lead customer storage platform enablement using Microchip Switchtec PCI Express switch products and drive system-level solutions.
  • Collaborate with hyperscale and storage worldwide customers to define requirements, manage deliverables, and support platforms from initial board bring-up to production.
  • Provide technical support, manage customer platform enabling issues, and develop product collateral, hardware guides, reference design package, firmware updates, and software for PCIE switch products used in data center computing/storage integrated circuits.
  • Provide product training and presentation to internal field engineers, customer engineering teams, and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Work independently and within cross-functional teams to solve complex engineering challenges.
  • Travel to customer sites in Asia and North America as needed to debug systems and support PCIe switch products.
  • Lead technical discussions and customer engagements to optimize system designs and platform implementation.
  • Ensure seamless product integration and lifecycle management through collaboration with customers and internal teams.
  • Continue learning on next generation PCI express bus protocol, storage architecture and Switchtec product from internal and external technical resources.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in EE, CS, or CE with 12+ years of industry experience.
  • Strong technical leadership, teamwork, communication, and presentation skills in a cross-functional, global environment.
  • Expertise in circuit theory, PCB Schematics and Layout, high-speed signal fundamentals, and board-level debug & bring-up.
  • Hands-on experience with protocol analyzers, exercisers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and other lab equipment.
  • Understanding of system-level firmware-hardware interaction and good problem-solving skills.
  • Customer-facing experience with a focus on technical support and issue debug.
  • Familiarity with storage networking concepts and I/O protocols like PCIe, SAS, SATA, SCSI, Ethernet, and TCP/IP.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple geographical locations to drive engineering excellence.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Expertise in PCIe or any other high speed serial interface bus/SERDES architecture, signal integrity, and simulations (spice/IBIS AMI).
  • Strong system design, hardware (board/chip-level) development & debugging and customer orientation skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer system design, server and storage system architecture, microprocessors, I/O interfaces, electronics hardware development and basic programming (Python, C).
  • Experience in the Storage Industry and familiarity with marketing and sales collaboration.
  • Skilled in debugging using lab equipment like multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and Linux utilities.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and cross-functional team engagement abilities.
