MISSION
Maintain network stability, security and scalability on a day-to-day and long-term basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES (the "What")
Network Operations & Support

• Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network infrastructure, including Cisco routers and switches, firewalls (Palo Alto), and load balancers (F5).
• Support senior engineers in monitoring and troubleshooting Layer 2/3 network issues, using tools such as ping, traceroute, packet captures, and SNMP-based monitoring systems.
• Work with cross-functional teams to help provision network connectivity for new systems, office expansions, or cloud resources.

Systems & Cloud Integration Support

• Assist in troubleshooting connectivity and performance issues involving Windows and Linux servers, working alongside infrastructure and application teams.
• Provide support for network-related issues within virtualized and cloud environments, including VMware ESXi/vSphere, Azure VMs, and hybrid cloud networking scenarios.

Learning & Hands-On Exposure – Responsibilities (Day-to-Day)

• Gain hands-on experience with enterprise-grade network equipment, including:

• Cisco Catalyst/Nexus switches

• Palo Alto firewalls (rulebase management, IDS-IPS)
• F5 BIG-IP LTM (basic load balancing and health checks)
• Aruba and Juniper networking platforms

• Zscaler Endpoint Protection / Client-VPN

• Learn to support cloud networking setups in Azure, including VNETs, VPN Gateways, NSGs, and Route Tables.

Documentation & Compliance

• Assist in maintaining accurate network diagrams, asset inventories, and configuration documentation under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Help ensure changes follow ITIL-aligned processes, including change management, incident handling, and ticket escalation.
• Participate in audits or compliance tasks related to HIPAA, SOC2, and PCI-DSS under supervision.

Security & Configuration

• Support the implementation of basic firewall rules and ACLs in line with company policies.
• Assist in the configuration of VPN tunnels, VLANs, DHCP scopes, static routes, and port security across various platforms.
• Learn to perform routine checks and patching activities to maintain system security and availability.

Monitoring & Troubleshooting

• Help monitor network performance using tools like LibreNMS, Nagios, or other NMS systems.
• Respond to and escalate alerts related to link failures, routing issues, latency, and application access problems.
• Assist in On-Call support rotations under mentorship, with increasing responsibility over time.

Education/Experience

• 3 - 5 years of experience in a Network-related position.
• Experience working in a datacenter, branch office and cloud infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of Networking best practices, including OSI model, TCP/IP, network security.
• Certification preferred (CCNA/CCNP/CCIE, Network+, Security+, Any valid)
• Understanding and experience with Layer 3 routing protocols, including BGP, OSPF, IPSEC and VRRP and the OSI model in general.
• Demonstrated experience implementing and supporting Layer 2/3 topologies including ARP, STP and MPLS.
• LAN and WAN, Wireless and SDWAN technologies - firewalls, switches, routers, fiber circuits, patching, connectivity, VPN's, DHCP, TCP/IP, DNS, etc.
• Core Technologies: Cisco, Palo Alto, HPE- Aruba, Juniper - 128T, Azure networking.
• Scripting: shell, Perl, Python, PHP, PowerShell.
• Familiarity with ITIL standards, including incident, problem and change management.
• Experience working in environments with PCI, HIPPA and/or SOC compliance requirements.
• Understanding of IT Support ticket management concepts.
• Managed Services experience and Service Provider/ISP experience a plus.
