About the Role

AppHelix is seeking a talented and passionate Python and React developers with expertise on Open edX platform to join our dynamic engineering team. You will play a crucial role in developing, customizing, and maintaining our Open edX platform, leveraging your strong skills in both backend (Python) and frontend (React) development. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a platform that empowers learners worldwide and to work on challenging and rewarding projects.

What You'll Do (Roles and Responsibilities)

• Develop robust and efficient backend APIs and services using Python and related frameworks (e.g., Django, Flask).
• Build engaging and user-friendly frontend interfaces using React and associated libraries.
• Design, develop, and implement new features and functionalities on the Open edX platform.
• Customize and extend existing Open edX modules and components to meet specific requirements.
• Integrate Open edX with other internal and external systems.
• Write clean, well-documented, and testable code.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to best practices.
• Troubleshoot and debug issues across the full stack.
• Collaborate effectively with product managers, designers, and other engineers in an agile environment.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest developments and best practices in Open edX, Python, and React.
• Contribute to the improvement of our development processes and tools.
• Advocate for best practices in accessibility, internationalization, scalability, and security.
• Help improve documentation, tests, and developer experience

Expertise You'll Bring (Experience and Skills)

• Proven experience (4+ years) in full-stack development.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience with Python web frameworks such as Django or Flask.
• Solid experience in frontend development using React and its ecosystem (e.g., Redux, Context API, Material UI, Styled Components).
• Familiarity with the Open edX platform architecture and its core components (e.g., LMS, Studio).
• Experience with RESTful API design and development.
• Knowledge of database systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
• Experience with version control systems, preferably Git.
• Understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum).
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Good to Have:

• Experience with specific Open edX XBlocks development.
• Contributions to open-source projects, particularly within the Open edX community.
• Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience with testing frameworks (e.g., pytest, Jest, Enzyme).
• Understanding of learning management systems (LMS) and online education principles.
• Understanding of microservices architecture.
• Experience with event-driven systems (e.g., Celery, RabbitMQ).
• Contributions to the Open edX project or related repositories.
