I. ROLE PURPOSE
Provide strategic and operational leadership for all clinical services, ensuring delivery of safe, ethical, high-quality patient care in compliance with NABH, JCI, NABL and statutory regulations. Act as the bridge between the medical fraternity, hospital management and regulatory bodies.
II. KEY RESPONSIBILILTIES
1. Clinical Governance & Quality
- Chair the Hospital Clinical Governance Committee; review mortality & morbidity, RCA,
sentinel events.
- Ensure implementation of SOPs, clinical pathways, infection-control protocols, antibiotic
stewardship.
- Drive accreditation & re-accreditation activities (NABH, NABL, JCI); close CAPA within TAT.
- Conduct monthly medical audit, surgical-site infection review & blood-utilisation review.
2. Medical Administration
- Guide duty-roster, OT scheduling, bed-management & disaster preparedness.
- Monitor doctor availability, consultant contracts, privilege credentialing & re-credentialing.
- Approve new procedure introduction, high-end equipment utilisation & clinical research
proposals.
- Oversee medico-legal cases, prepare statements and represent hospital before courts /
tribunals.
3. Patient Safety & Risk Management
- Lead Rapid Response Team, Code Blue Committee; ensure ACLS / BLS training for clinical staff.
- Investigate patient complaints, adverse events, implement corrective actions.
- Maintain zero tolerance for patient harm
4. Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with MCI/NMC, Maharashtra Medical Council, MTP, PNDT, BCI, Clinical
Establishment Act, Pollution Control, Fire & Safety norms.
- Liaise with Govt. health authorities, DMHO, FDA & police for inspections / emergencies.
- Review & sign-off on death summaries, discharge summaries, medico-legal documents.
5. Academic & Research
- Promote CMEs, nursing & paramedic education; chair monthly grand rounds & case
presentations.
- Encourage publication, thesis guidance & GCP-compliant clinical trials.
6. Financial & Operational Efficiency
- Participate in budget preparation; monitor revenue per bed, ALOS, OT utilisation, drug-expiry.
- Support cost-effective procurement of drugs, devices & disposables.
7. People Leadership
- Mentor HODs, residents, nursing & allied health staff; oversee appraisal & promotion process.
- Foster collaborative culture between clinical and non-clinical teams.
III. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & LICENSURE
- MBBS + MD / MS / DNB (any specialty) from MCI/NMC recognised institution.
- Minimum 15 years post-MD/MS experience with at least 5 years as Medical Superintendent /
Chief Medical Officer in a 300+ bed NABH accredited hospital.
- Valid registration with Maharashtra Medical Council; preference for additional qualification in
Hospital Administration (MHM/MBA).
IV. SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Strong knowledge of NABH / JCI standards, clinical risk management, medico-legal framework.
- Exceptional leadership, communication (English, Hindi, Marathi) & stakeholder management
skills.
- Decision-making ability under pressure; empathetic patient-centric approach.
- Proficient in HIS, MS Office & basic data analytics.
