The Community You Will Join
The Client and Identity Engineering team is accountable for establishing the user identity and endpoint security infrastructure in Airbnb's corporate environment. Client and Identity Engineering encompass corporate zero trust deployments. Our systems enable all Airbnb employees and partners to have secure access to the data they need at the right time and in the right context. We provide Airbnb employees and partners with the best-in-class experience, enabling them to effectively build our platform.

The Difference You Will Make
The team works on systems which have higher reliability and security requirements than most backend systems or services. Our products are critical services, downtime across these services can result in downtime for Airbnb employees and partners. In addition, the team collaborates closely with our security engineering teams to design new features and evolve the platforms to meet the engineering challenges as business needs evolve.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will build and maintain robust, scalable, and secure systems that underpin the entire Airbnb Zero Trust ecosystem. You will play a pivotal role in the execution for these critical platforms. This is an opportunity to be a part of impactful work, and contribute to the safety and trust of the Airbnb community.

A Typical Day

• Architect and implement complex features, focusing on business-need-driven decision making and performance optimizations.
• Collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional partners across the organization to understand and prioritize technical requirements.
• Help define and improve coding standards, development processes and best practices.
• Prototype, align with feedback, iterate, and deliver product features and improvements.
• Foster an engineering environment of quality code, relevant documentation, operational excellence, and knowledge sharing.

Your Expertise

• Bachelor's and/or Master/PhD's degree, preferably in CS, or equivalent experience
• 5-9 years of experience in test driven software development.
• Extensive experience with Go, Python, or Java (Go strongly preferred).
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Solid understanding of software architecture and design patterns.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work well within engineering organization and cross functions
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Experience leading technical projects and mentoring engineers.
• Show motivation for personal growth and learning new technologies to support the team's needs.

Bonus Points

• Experience with microservices architecture.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of authentication and authorization principles and technologies, such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, RBAC (Role-Based Access Control), ABAC (Attribute-Based Access Control), and related security protocols.
• Working knowledge of modern security principles, such as Zero Trust.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range shown below is annualized, is inclusive of allowances and is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus or incentives, one or more equity programs, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
