Come join us in the Azure Core Economics team, explore your passions, and impact the world If you join the Azure Core Economics team, you will join a group of economists, data scientists, and software engineers within Azure Engineering that tackles a variety of data-intensive, distributed computing challenges related to cloud economics that are of critical importance to Microsoft.

Our team collaborates with a wide range of other teams in Microsoft on problems such as pricing optimization, demand estimation and forecasting, capacity management and planning, fraud detection, virtual machine bin packing, and others. Our software engineering team in India aids in the development of novel software products, improvements, and research incubations that are aligned to this core mission.

As a Software Engineer II in the Azure Core Economics team, you will play an important role in developing software for a variety of economics-related products in cloud computing that leverage large amounts of data to drive improvements to the Azure platform and its customers. This opportunity will allow you to gain experience working on cutting-edge problems in the intersection of applied economics, engineering, and data science, develop deep expertise in the economics of the cloud business, and become increasingly adept at developing engineering solutions for data-intensive products. The team is supportive of flexible work, and candidates may work from home up to 2 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Work with appropriate internal stakeholders (economists, data scientists, engineers, researchers, program managers, and business planners) to understand and determine customer or user requirements for a set of features and execute project plans, release plans, and work items.
• Create and implement code for a product, service, or feature that is extensible and maintainable with minimal supervision.
• Apply best practices to build code based on well-established methods and secure design principles while also applying best practices for new code development and formal validation of security invariants.
• Contribute to identifying dependencies and incorporate them into the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
• Create a clear test strategy that ensures solution quality and prevents regressions from being introduced into existing code with minimal supervision.
• Contribute to efforts to classify and analyze data with little oversight on a range of metrics and help create outputs (such as notifications and dashboards) that improve monitoring.
• Remain current in skills by investing time and effort into being informed of current developments that will improve the performance of products.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• 1+ years of experience working within a cloud environment such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or Google Cloud Platform.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements is required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• OR Equivalent experience
• 1+ years of experience leveraging relational database and SQL skills, with working knowledge of data warehousing concepts, including technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL/ELT, and reporting/analytic tools and environments (such as Cosmos DB, Apache Beam, Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive, MapReduce, and Flume).
• 1+ years of experience applying software development skills to economics-oriented and data-intensive products and problems.
• 3+ years of experience working within a cloud environment such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or Google Cloud Platform, including 1+ years of experience deploying statistical or machine learning models at scale.
