Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with strong expertise in managing, optimizing, and supporting multiple database platforms, including IBM DB2 (primary), and additional exposure to Oracle (good to have), PostgreSQL, and MS SQL Server (On-Premise and Azure).

The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in database administration, performance tuning, high availability (HA) solutions, disaster recovery (DR), and security, along with proven leadership and mentoring skills to guide a team of DBAs.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Database Administration & Management

  2. Administer and manage DB2, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MS SQL Server databases across development, test, and production environments.

  3. Ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of databases to meet business requirements.

  4. Performance Tuning & Optimization

  5. Monitor and analyze database performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.

  6. Optimize queries, indexes, and resource allocation across DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.

  7. Backup & Recovery

  8. Implement, manage, and regularly test backup and recovery strategies.

  9. Ensure data integrity and business continuity in line with RTO/RPO requirements.

  10. High Availability & Disaster Recovery

  11. Design, implement, and maintain HA and DR solutions such as:

  12. DB2 HADR

  13. Oracle Data Guard

  14. MS SQL Server Always On

  15. Security & Compliance

  16. Manage database security, including user access controls, encryption, and audit logs.

  17. Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational security standards.

  18. Automation & Scripting

  19. Develop and maintain automation for routine DBA tasks (backups, patching, monitoring).

  20. Use scripting languages such as Shell and PowerShell for efficiency improvements.

  21. Database Migration & Upgrades

  22. Plan and execute database upgrades, migrations, and patching across DB2, Oracle, and MS SQL Server environments.

  23. Minimize downtime and ensure smooth transitions.

  24. Database Architecture & Design

  25. Design schemas, tables, stored procedures, and views to support application requirements.

  26. Ensure data integrity, scalability, and optimal performance.

  27. Troubleshooting & Incident Resolution

  28. Diagnose and resolve complex issues such as performance bottlenecks, corruption, and outages.

  29. Provide root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.

  30. Capacity Planning & Monitoring

  31. Perform database sizing, capacity planning, and growth forecasting.

  32. Proactively ensure databases scale with evolving business needs.

  33. Collaboration & Leadership

  34. Work closely with developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to deliver high-performing solutions.

  35. Mentor junior DBAs and share best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 810 years of DBA experience, primarily with IBM DB2.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MS SQL Server (On-Prem & Azure).
  • Expertise in performance tuning, HA/DR, and backup/recovery strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with DB2 HADR, Oracle Data Guard, MS SQL Server Always On.
  • Proficiency in Shell scripting, PowerShell, or equivalent automation tools.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
