Sr. Engineer Mechanical

Job Description
We are seeking a Piping Design Expert with strong expertise in liquid cooling distribution systems for data center applications, specifically focusing on Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs). The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and validating piping systems, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, manufacturability, and compliance with industry standards. [Majority of work will be in SS piping]

Key Responsibilities Design & Development

• Lead piping system design for CDU-based single-phase and two-phase liquid cooling systems.
• Create 3D models, assembly layouts, and manufacturing drawings using CAD tools (Creo, SolidWorks, or similar).
• Develop piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), isometric drawings, and bill of materials (BOM).
• Optimize piping layouts for flow efficiency, reduced pressure drop, and minimal vibration.
• Select appropriate materials, fittings, valves, hoses, and connectors considering corrosion resistance, thermal performance, and cost.
• Incorporate leak prevention, ease of maintenance, and assembly feasibility into designs.
• Expert in DFA, DFM, DFMEA,GD &T aspect of design.
• Knowledge in corrosion, scaling, SS material and metallurgical aspect.

Analysis & Validation

• Aware of flow analysis (CFD) and thermal-hydraulic calculations for sizing of pipes, hoses, and manifolds.
• Sound knowledge in stress analysis for pressure, vibration, and thermal expansion considerations.
• Support prototype builds and validation testing (pressure, burst, leak, and vibration tests).

Documentation & Compliance

• Prepare and maintain design documentation including specifications, test reports, and compliance checklists.
• Ensure designs comply with ASME B31.3/B31.9, ISO 9001, RoHS, and relevant data center cooling standards.
• Support technical reviews, DFMEA, and design approval processes.

Cross-functional Collaboration

• Work closely with mechanical, electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams for integration and optimization of CDU piping.
• Collaborate with suppliers for component sourcing, manufacturing feasibility, and cost optimization.
• Provide technical guidance to installation, service, and commissioning teams.

Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Skills

• Proven experience in piping design for cooling systems, preferably in data center, HVAC, or industrial liquid cooling applications.
• Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer principles.
• Proficiency in CAD tools (Creo, or equivalent).
• Experience with P&ID creation, isometric drawings, and piping layout design.
• Familiarity with CFD and FEA tools for fluid and stress analysis (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, FloEFD, or similar).
• Understanding of welding, brazing, and tube-bending manufacturing processes.

Soft Skills

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Good communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to work in a cross-functional, global engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in piping design.
• Experience in data center cooling, CDU, or chiller systems.
