Cartography Expert

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Cartographer/Map-Making Expert to support our research project by creating, analyzing, and interpreting spatial data. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of geospatial technologies and have experience in map design, GIS software, and cartographic standards. This role is integral to the project, providing accurate and visually engaging maps to inform research and project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and produce high-quality maps and spatial visualizations to support the project's research objectives

• Analyze spatial data from a variety of sources, including satellite imagery, surveys, and GPS data

• Collaborate with researchers to translate project data into clear, effective cartographic representations

• Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to develop and maintain spatial databases

• Ensure accuracy, precision, and quality control of maps and spatial data outputs

• Keep up-to-date with new trends, technologies, and methodologies in cartography and geospatial analysis

• Manage and document all map-related data, ensuring that metadata standards are adhered to

• Provide technical support in spatial analysis and data visualization for project team members

• Troubleshoot GIS and cartographic software issues, providing recommendations for improvements or updates as needed

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geography, Cartography, GIS, Geomatics, or a related field

Experience:

• Proven experience as a Cartographer or GIS specialist, with a portfolio of map products

• Experience working on research projects or in academic/industry research settings is a plus

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo)

• Strong understanding of cartographic principles and visual design

• Experience with remote sensing and data acquisition techniques (e.g., satellite imagery, aerial surveys)

• Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or R for geospatial analysis is an advantage

• Familiarity with GPS and other geolocation technologies

• Proficiency in data analysis tools and spatial data management
