Overview The Mainframe ZOS Administrator plays a crucial role within our IT infrastructure team, focusing on the management and optimization of mainframe systems. This position is vital for ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security of our ZOS operating environments. The successful candidate will take charge of various administrative tasks, including system setup, configuration, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting. As organizations increasingly rely on large-scale data processing and transaction systems, the role of the Mainframe ZOS Administrator is essential for maintaining uninterrupted service and high availability. This role requires a deep understanding of mainframe architecture and a proactive approach to system management. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical expertise and problem-solving skills, contributing to the improvement of mainframe processes and supporting the business's overall objectives. Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and administer Mainframe ZOS environments to ensure optimal performance.
  • Monitor system performance and implement tuning measures as required.
  • Ensure security policies are enforced and manage access rights.
  • Perform regular backups and disaster recovery testing to safeguard data.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade ZOS and related software systems.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Document system configurations, changes, and procedures for reference.
  • Assist in capacity planning and resource management.
  • Implement and manage patches and updates for the mainframe operating system.
  • Collaborate with development teams to support application deployments.
  • Conduct system health checks and performance assessments.
  • Develop and maintain scripts for automation of repetitive tasks.
  • Provide technical support and mentorship to junior staff members.
  • Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and new technologies related to mainframe.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a ZOS Administrator or similar position.
  • Thorough knowledge of mainframe architecture and ZOS operating systems.
  • Strong understanding of JCL, COBOL, and other relevant programming languages.
  • Experience with performance tuning and system optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with mainframe networking protocols and connectivity options.
  • Knowledge of system security practices and compliance standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficient in using monitoring and management tools for mainframe systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with backup and recovery solutions specific to ZOS.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize workloads effectively.
  • Certifications related to mainframe technology are a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotation for system support.
