Tool Room Head

Job Purpose:

To lead and manage the complete Tool Room function will lead the commercial tool room team in assembling, validating, and delivering stamping tools, ensuring precision manufacturing, maintenance, and timely delivery of sheet metal press tools. Act as a technical bridge between management, production, sales, and marketing teams to support business growth in tooling and new project development.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Tool Room Operations

• Plan, organize, and control all tool design, manufacturing, and maintenance activities.
• Oversee VMC, Wire cut, VTL, EDM, and Surface Grinding operations with focus on accuracy and delivery.
• Monitor tool trials, modifications, and validation for production readiness.

2. New Tool Development & Design

• Support sales and marketing by providing technical feasibility, cost estimation, and lead time for new tooling inquiries.
• Collaborate with customers for tool concept approval, design reviews, and development progress updates.
• Manage prototype and new product development tools.

3. Reporting & Coordination with Management

• Prepare and submit weekly/monthly tool room performance reports, project status, and cost analysis to management.
• Recommend capital investments for new machines, tooling upgrades, and process improvements.
• Present project timelines, manpower utilization, and tool delivery schedules during management review meetings.
• Highlight and address any potential risks to project timelines to ensure on-time delivery commitment.

4. Quality & Cost Management

• Ensure precision and quality standards in all tooling activities as per customer and ISO/IATF requirements.
• Conduct root cause analysis for tool breakdowns and implement corrective/preventive actions.
• Control tooling cost, consumables, and optimize tool design for cost efficiency and longevity.

5. Customer & Sales Support

• Provide technical inputs to the Sales and Marketing team for quotations and customer presentations.
• Support customer audits, visits, and technical discussions related to tool manufacturing capability.
• Ensure timely communication and coordination with customers regarding tool status and dispatch.

6. Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and motivate the tool room team of machinists, tool designers, and operators.
• Conduct regular training on tool design, machining processes, and safety standards.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

Required Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of Sheet Metal Press Tools, Progressive Dies, VMC Programming, Wire cut, Surface Grinding, and Tool Design.
• Experience in customer interaction, quotation support, and technical documentation.
• Excellent planning, communication, and leadership skills.
