- Cancer Diagnosis: Examine biopsy and surgical specimens to identify cancer, determine its type, and assess its extent.
- Characterization: Use histological, cytological, and molecular techniques to classify tumors, determine their grade, and identify molecular characteristics.
- Collaboration: Work closely with oncologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to integrate findings and guide patient care and treatment.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure diagnostic accuracy through quality control measures and adherence to regulatory standards, such as NABL compliance.
- Reporting: Provide accurate and timely reports of findings to support patient management and treatment planning.
- Research & Development: In some roles, participate in research, support drug discovery, or develop innovative diagnostic techniques and processes.
- Education & Governance: Contribute to the teaching of medical students and junior staff, and participate in clinical governance, audits, and multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
Required Skills & Expertise
- Expertise in: Histopathology, Cytology, and Molecular Pathology.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to accurately interpret complex pathology reports and correlate findings with clinical data.
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and communicate findings clearly.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and techniques for sample analysis, such as frozen sections and immunohistochemistry.
- Knowledge of: Cancer biology, tumor grading, and staging.
