Job Description

UMC is looking for a Solid Waste Management Specialist/Consultant to be a part of a state-level technical support unit in Assam for the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). The SWM Specialist/Consultant will work with various stakeholders, including the government, community members, and private sector partners, to ensure the successful implementation of SWM projects.

Successful candidates would be able to demonstrate an awareness of the urban sector, as well as technical excellence in their chosen field of study. Strong analytical, written communication, verbal presentation and visual design skills are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:

•       
Provide technical guidance to the state department of Assam for the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) for SWM through technical guidelines; standard operating procedures (SOP) for O&M of various SWM facilities; advisories for segregation, routing of collection, home composting, managing special wastes (such as plastics, bio-medical, construction debris, etc); procurement and contracts management support; feasibility studies, baseline assessments, and capacity building activities for SWM.

•       
Support the state and cities in the design, implementation, and monitoring of SWM projects and conduct regular field visits to project sites to supervise and guide the state/ cities.

•       
Conduct training and capacity building activities for government officials, community members, and other stakeholders.

•       
Knowledge of GIS platform for developing thematic maps by using my map or relevant apps.

Qualifications:

•       
B.E/B. Tech (Mechanical/Civil/Environmental Engineering.) or a Masters in Environmental Science Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or related field

•       
At least 3 years of relevant experience in SWM, WASH and related fields.

•       
Experience working with government agencies will be an added advantage.

•       
Strong technical knowledge of SWM systems – planning and technologies, feasibility studies, baseline assessments, and technical studies in SWM, WASH and related fields.

•       
Proficiency in English; the ability to read, write, and speak Assamese will be an added advantage.
