Job Purpose:

To provide deep technical expertise in hydrogen production, purification, storage, and utilization technologies. The technologist will support R&D, operations, and strategic energy transition projects focused on improving efficiency, lowering carbon intensity, and enabling green/blue hydrogen adoption.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process Technology & Optimization
  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot hydrogen production processes, including Steam Methane Reforming (SMR), Auto-Thermal Reforming (ATR), Partial Oxidation (POX), and Electrolysis (Alkaline, PEM, SOEC).
  • Evaluate and implement solutions for hydrogen purification (PSA, membranes), compression, and storage systems.
  • Conduct energy and carbon intensity analyses to support decarbonization and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • R&D and Innovation
  • Support pilot plant trials, lab-scale experimentation, and modeling studies for hydrogen-related technologies.
  • Collaborate on development of blue/green hydrogen technologies, including carbon capture (CCUS) integration, renewable integration, and novel catalysts/membranes.
  • Project Engineering & Support
  • Participate in preparation of technology packages, process documentation (PFDs, P&IDs), and engineering deliverables for new units, revamps, or capacity expansions.
  • Evaluate technology licensors, assess feasibility of scale-up, and provide techno-economic analysis for internal proposals.
  • Operational Support
  • Provide technical guidance to operations for hydrogen plant performance monitoring, catalyst life assessment, turnaround planning, and safe handling procedures.
  • Lead root cause analysis for plant upsets or underperformance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Sustainability & Transition
  • Contribute to company's net-zero and energy transition goals by identifying opportunities for hydrogen as an energy vector, fuel replacement, or feedstock in various applications (mobility, refining, petrochemicals).
  • Support hydrogen integration into existing industrial ecosystems (refineries, crackers, methanol/ammonia plants).
  • Compliance & Knowledge Management
  • Ensure adherence to safety, health, and environmental norms.
  • Capture technical learnings, update SOPs, and disseminate best practices across units and teams.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Education: B.Tech / M.Tech / Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or equivalent from a reputed institution.
  • Experience: 8–15 years of experience in hydrogen production, plant operations, process design, or technology development.
Preferred Skills:
  • Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, reaction engineering, and catalysis relevant to hydrogen production.
  • Experience with hydrogen value chain – production, purification, storage, and utilization (incl. fuel cells, ammonia).
  • Familiarity with process simulation tools (Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, PRO/II).
  • Exposure to hydrogen safety and risk assessment protocols (H₂S, fire/explosion hazards).
  • Understanding of decarbonization strategies and hydrogen's role in low-carbon energy systems.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional settings.
