Role & responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the copyediting team for quality, accuracy, and timely delivery.
  • Ensure adherence to client guidelines, style guides, and publishing standards.
  • Establish and uphold editorial best practices and consistency across projects.
  • Oversee editing workflows, ensuring alignment with tone, style, and quality expectations.
  • Optimize processes for productivity and efficiency, including automation.
  • Conduct quality checks and sampling for new and ongoing projects.
  • Resolve complex editing issues and act as the primary escalation point.
  • Manage daily production schedules, priorities, and team workload.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance quality and workflow.
  • Communicate regularly with clients; address queries and feedback.
  • Maintain and update project trackers, reports, and documentation.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking with leadership.
  • Train, onboard, and mentor team members for skill and role development.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, language standards, and tools.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and growth-oriented team culture.
  • Implement and improve internal systems and editorial processes.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Bachelors degree in English, Publishing, Journalism, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of copyediting experience, including 2+ years in a managerial role.
  • Exceptional command of English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven leadership in guiding and motivating editorial teams to meet quality and efficiency targets.
  • In-depth knowledge of editorial standards and style guides (e.g., AMA, APA, Vancouver).
  • Experience in medical or STM (scientific, technical, medical) editing preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and academic publishing protocols.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and detail-oriented mindset under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with a record of on-time delivery.
