Role Overview
The IEC (Information, Education & Communication) Head is responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring all awareness and behavior change communication (BCC) initiatives related to waste segregation, cleanliness, and solid waste management. The role focuses on developing community engagement strategies, coordinating with animators and DEOs, and ensuring active participation from the public, field staff, and other stakeholders. The IEC Head plays a key role in driving segregation efficiency, compliance with MSW Rules 2016, and improving municipal cleanliness performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. IEC Planning & Strategy
- Develop and implement annual/monthly IEC plans in coordination with Project Management and the Municipality.
- Design awareness campaigns to promote source segregation, waste reduction, and environmental hygiene.
- Plan and execute outreach through door-to-door campaigns, street plays, awareness vans, posters, and digital content.
- Prepare IEC budgets and monitor effective utilization.
2. Team Leadership & Coordination
- Supervise and guide Animators and DEOs to ensure smooth execution of IEC activities in the field.
- Assign daily, weekly, and monthly awareness targets for each Animator.
- Ensure coordination between field operations (C&T) and IEC activities to maximize awareness impact.
- Conduct regular team meetings, training, and performance reviews.
3. Awareness Campaigns & Public Engagement
- Conduct mass awareness drives, community meetings, and school/market campaigns.
- Liaise with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), shop owners, and institutions to promote sustained participation.
- Ensure IEC vans operate effectively and maintain daily route and activity logs.
- Oversee preparation of audio-visual and print materials for campaigns.
4. Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly IEC activity reports from all constituencies.
- Analyze ward-wise segregation improvement data and link it with awareness efforts.
- Share performance dashboards with Management and the Municipality.
- Submit documentation, photos, and reports for audits and Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) compliance.
5. Technology & Data Management
- Supervise SBM portal updates related to awareness campaigns.
- Coordinate with DEOs for data consolidation and reporting accuracy.
- Support the use of digital tools and QR systems for tracking awareness and participation.
6. Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with municipal officials, NGOs, and community leaders for awareness partnerships.
- Participate in coordination meetings and represent IEC activities during reviews.
- Address public feedback and integrate learnings into campaign improvements.
7. Additional Responsibilities
- Support CSR or special event-based awareness initiatives.
- Perform any other duties assigned by AVP/Project Manager in line with organizational objectives.
Key Skills & Requirements
- Graduate/Postgraduate in Environmental Science, Social Work, or Mass Communication.
- 5–8 years of experience in public awareness or municipal IEC programs.
- Strong communication, leadership, and community engagement skills.
- Knowledge of Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 and SBM guidelines.
- Proficiency in MS Office and reporting tools.
