Procurement Engineer

Overview
The Procurement Engineer will support the New Product Engineering (NPE) team by sourcing and procuring components for medical devices. This role will identify suitable suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards, enabling successful prototype development and production.
ResponsibilitiesComponent Sourcing
- Collaborate with the NPE team to understand technical drawings, material requirements, and functional specifications.
- Identify, research, and pre-qualify suppliers capable of delivering components that meet stringent medical device standards.
- Conduct cost, lead time, and risk analysis to compare sourcing options.
- Evaluate component manufacturability, supply chain stability, and scalability to support product lifecycle needs.
- Proactively monitor market trends, availability of critical components, and potential supply risks, recommending suitable alternatives when needed.
Supplier Engagement
- Develop Requests for Quotation (RFQs) and Requests for Proposal (RFPs) aligned with technical and regulatory needs.
- Lead negotiations with suppliers on pricing, payment terms, intellectual property considerations, and delivery commitments.
- Establish long-term supplier partnerships to ensure quality, reliability, and responsiveness.
- Work with Quality and Regulatory teams to support supplier audits, qualification, and compliance documentation.
- Drive supplier performance reviews and improvement plans where necessary.
- Act as the primary point of contact for suppliers during product development, prototype builds, and initial production runs.
Procurement Execution
- Raise and manage purchase orders, ensuring on-time delivery of prototype and production parts.
- Monitor supplier performance against KPIs (quality, cost, delivery) and resolve issues.
- Maintain procurement records and documentation per ISO 13485 and FDA standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Engineering on design-for-manufacturability and cost reduction initiatives.
- Support risk assessment activities related to suppliers and components.
- Align sourcing strategies with long-term business objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
- 1–3 years of procurement or sourcing experience in medical devices or other regulated industries.
- Strong skills in supplier negotiations, contract management, and cost analysis.
- Knowledge of ISO 13485, FDA requirements, and medical device quality systems.
- ERP/procurement system experience and strong communication skills.
