Principal Optometrist, Deputy Head of Department Greater Glasgow and Clyde Acute Service Band 8A 37 hours

An exciting opportunity to work within NHS GGC Opthalmology service as a Deputy Head Optometrist has arisen.

We seek a highly motivated and experienced individual to support and assist the Optometry Head of Service in the planning, coordination and delivery of a range of quality Optometric services across Greater Glasgow and Clyde Acute Hospitals. This will include delegated responsibility for two Specialist Services as agreed with the Head of Service across Greater Glasgow and Clyde and will also be responsible for a specific area.

They will also be expected to personally deliver highly specialised programmes of care within at least one Optometric Specialist Clinic eg. Cornea, Cataract, Glaucoma, Medical Retina, Low Vision, Contact Lens or Optometric Investigative Techniques, Paediatric optometry.

The post-holder will join a team of 34 optometrists, who support the ophthalmology department consisting of 39 consultant ophthalmologists. The post holder will also work alongside nurses, healthcare assistants, photographers and administrative support staff. Vacancy Request Form (VRF) Approved January 2024 Page 3 of 7 Applicants should hold an Honours degree in Optometry and be registered with the General Optical Council. Postgraduate qualifications or equivalent specialist knowledge in at least 2 areas of Hospital Optometry, the post requires at least 5 years of specialist Hospital experience, with evidence of leadership and management skills. Independent prescribing or progress toward this qualification is desirable.
