Position Overview
The
Software Engineer II
will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software products within our enterprise solutions. This position requires strong proficiency in .NET framework and comprehensive database expertise, along with experience in modern application architecture.

The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, user experience, DevOps, and operations teams, to deliver robust software solutions that meet our customers' needs.

Key responsibilities include developing scalable applications, conducting thorough code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to best practices, and implementing solutions that enhance the reliability and performance of our systems. The Senior Software Engineer will also contribute to architectural discussions, participate in agile ceremonies, and mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Opportunity Highlights

• Designing and developing software Products: You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software products using .NET framework, C#, and ASP.NET in enterprise application architecture with comprehensive database integration and management.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams: You will work closely with cross-functional teams such as product management, user experience, DevOps and operations teams to deliver high-quality software products.
• Participating in agile development practices: Skillsoft follows agile development practices, and as a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for participating in agile ceremonies such as grooming, stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
• Staying up-to-date with emerging technologies: You will be expected to stay up-to-date with emerging .NET technologies, database optimization techniques, and industry trends, and apply this knowledge to improve software development practices at Skillsoft.
• Overall, as a Senior Software Engineer at Skillsoft, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software products, providing technical leadership to the team, and contributing to the overall success of the company.

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Engineering, or related field.
• 2-5 years of software engineering development experience developing cloud-based enterprise solutions
• Proficient in .NET framework, .NET Core, C#, and ASP.NET (Web API, MVC)Understanding of user interface and user experience design principles
• Strong database expertise including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Oracle with advanced query optimization
• Sound knowledge of design principles and design patterns
• Experience with Entity Framework, ADO.NET, and database design principles
• Proficient in developing and consuming REST APIs and Web services
• Strong knowledge of stored procedures, triggers, functions, and database performance tuning
• Experience with database batch processing, ETL operations, and data migration
• Proficient in working with multiple database systems and data integration
• Understanding of user interface and user experience design principles
• Experience with version control tools, preferably Git (Github, Gitlab, etc) and the feature branch workflow
• Working experience with reporting tools and ad-hoc data analysis
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills and understanding of various data structures and algorithms
• Must know how to develop applications on Windows and Unix/Linux based systems
• Experience with build automation tools like MSBuild, NuGet, and CI/CD pipelines
• Sound troubleshooting skills to address code bugs, database performance issues, and environment issues that may arise
• Good understanding of security concerns in enterprise applications and database security
• Experience in working with Agile/Scrum environment
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand system complexities and database relationships.
• Must know how to code applications on Unix/Linux based systems.
• Experience with build automation tools like Maven, Gradle, NPM, WebPack, Grunt.
• Sound troubleshooting skills to address code bugs, performance issues and environment issues that may arise.
• Good understanding of the common security concerns of high volume publicly exposed systems
• Experience in working with Agile/Scrum environment.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand complexities and how components connect and relate to each other.
