Job Title: MRD Technician

Reports To: MRD Officer / Medical Records Manager / Hospital Administrator

Job Summary:

The MRD Technician is responsible for the systematic management of patient medical records, ensuring their accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals) documentation standards. The role supports hospital operations, medico-legal processes, and quality improvement by maintaining precise and accessible records.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Records Management:

  • Collect, verify, and file patient medical records in a systematic manner.
  • Ensure all records meet NABH documentation requirements for completeness and legibility.
  • Maintain both paper-based and electronic medical records (EMR/EHR).
  • Retrieve records promptly for authorized medical, administrative, or legal use.
  • Code and classify diagnoses, treatments, and procedures using ICD coding standards.

Data Entry and Documentation:

  • Accurately enter patient demographic, clinical, and discharge data into hospital information systems.
  • Ensure correct use of medical terminology in all record entries.
  • Monitor and maintain admission, discharge, transfer, and death registers.
  • Prepare daily, monthly, and annual statistical and clinical reports for hospital management.

Compliance and NABH Standards:

  • Ensure all medical records comply with NABH documentation protocols, retention schedules, and medico-legal requirements.
  • Participate in internal and external audits for NABH accreditation.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of hospital record-keeping policies and SOPs.
  • Safeguard patient confidentiality and ensure access only to authorized personnel.

Archiving and Retrieval:

  • Organize inactive records in line with NABH-prescribed retention and disposal policies.
  • Support digitization of archived records for efficient retrieval and compliance.
  • Facilitate quick retrieval of records for clinical, research, and medico-legal needs.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Work closely with clinical and administrative teams to provide accurate data.
  • Train and guide junior staff on medical record protocols and NABH standards.
  • Assist quality and audit teams with documentation during inspections or accreditation reviews.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology for accurate documentation and coding.
  • Familiarity with NABH standards and documentation protocols.
  • Proficiency in ICD-10 coding and hospital information systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong data management and reporting skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow medico-legal procedures.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Educational Qualification:

  • Diploma / Certificate in Medical Records Technology or Health Information Management.
  • Knowledge or certification in NABH documentation and quality standards is highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 0–2 years of experience in MRD; exposure to NABH-accredited hospitals preferred.
  • Experience in EMR/EHR systems and ICD coding will be an advantage.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based in the Medical Records Department.
  • Requires coordination with doctors, nurses, quality teams, and administrative staff.

Pay: ₹15, ₹33,771.51 per month
