Role Overview:

SRLC's Head of Communications helps drive the narrative, reputation, and reach of the organization across India and the global diaspora. The role oversees brand strategy, media, digital and content, executive communications, and internal communications. A crucial role is turning SRLC's programs, research, and impact into clear stories that mobilize devotees, donors, partners, media, and policymakers. The Head of Communications will have to serve as a builder and strategist, creating systems and teams for execution along with overall governance. This role reports to the SRLC leads and will work closely with PR, program heads, and other leadership roles.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Messaging:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with our mission and values. o Craft compelling narratives that resonate with internal and external audiences.
  • Define the SRLC brandbook - ensuring consistency of our brand identity across platforms

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Cultivate relationships with media, devotees, donors, policymakers, and the wider NGO community
  • Ensure consistent messaging to all categories of stakeholders
  • Build and run an integrated 'newsroom' cadence proactively scheduling how and when SRLC has touchpoints with stakeholders

Media Relationships (alongside PR team)

  • Develop and drive media strategy of coordinated, proactive output, including articles, press releases, op eds, broadcast appearances and speaking opportunities in target markets.
  • Manage media inquiries, press releases, and crisis communication.
  • Collaborate with journalists and influencers to amplify our message.

Content Creation

  • Create written and visual content for various channels (website, social media, newsletters).
  • Ensure content reflects our ethos and resonates with diverse audiences.
  • Maintain a central asset library (of copy, visuals, quotes, etc.) for rapid reuse across teams

Internal Communication

  • Facilitate transparent communication within the organization.
  • Coordinate town halls, newsletters, and leadership updates.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related; Master's preferred
  • 7+ years in communications/PR/brand with 3+ years in a strategic leadership role
  • Strong writing/editing portfolio across various media formats
  • Fluency in English required; Hindi and/or Gujarati proficiency highly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to balance vision-setting with hands-on execution.
  • Readiness to understand the social sector, developmental impact, and cross-sectoral collaboration
  • Willingness to travel for events, site visits, stakeholder meetings, etc.
